    SuperSprint vs.TMS style headers

So I notice that a lot of swappers are using the Super Sprint style headers, but what about the TMS shorty style headers? There's some knock-offs on ebay right now and they look tempting but I dont wanna be a guineapig, or I dont want to be one unless I have to. I'm redoing my exhaust and I'm running the obd2 manifolds at the moment and would like to reuse the e36 downpipes.

I was just looking at those last night. Looks like they would be good for fitment.

Keep in mind that the TMS equal length headers are made specifically for an M/S50 in an E30, and thus shouldn't have any fitment issues.

For the price you’re paying I guess I would expect some fitment issues.

I currently have the eBay SS reps and none of the bolt holes lineup.. Trying to figure out if I should just smash the shorter tube where it will hit the body and sway bar. But I digress maybe I'll just pony up and get some shorty headers..

Anyone want to buy some eBay SS reps, 80 bucks + shipping...

shorty headers are pointless. if you aren't going with long tubes, stock will work just as well.

I read this all the time. I am not doubting this... but is there a reason why long tube headers are preferred?

because they actually aid in torque production where you can use it. the RPM where shorty headers are effective is way higher than you'd rev the motor. if you do the math, you need about 30" primaries (or more) for any effectiveness.

shorty headers are typically 1/3 that or less. totally pointless - may as well call them a manifold rather than a header. :p

Do you have any source to back that up? TMS says on their website that they are designed to increase mid-range power.

Just from my eyeball measurement, it looks like the primaries on the TMS style would be the same length as the SS primaries before the collectors, but the SS style headers are consider long?

Nando knows more than you just accept his wisdom. If you have a downpipe bought and paid for that already bolts up to the ObdII manifolds just stick with them, cheap knock off shorties will just make your shit raspy. Long tubes are a whole different nightmare too. Believe me.

I'm not questioning Nando's knowledge, my question is TMS is "short" and SS is "long" but they seem to have same length primaries, so what makes the SS longtube headers?. It's not a big deal if I can't use my downpipes but it would be nice, know what I mean?
