    Starter doesn't engage...

I put in a new starter after my previous one was bench tested "faulty."
After doing my trans swap from a G240 to a G260, my starter isn't engaging the flywheel. I haven't touched ANYTHING else except the trans. The only thing that's different is that I added the transmission dust shield. It's still an M50 starter to M50 DW flywheel and it's wired correctly !! Any advice ?

Starter spins and spins but doesn't make contact. No grinding, it's the right pitch gear too.

      Is the solenoid engaging?

Doesn't seem like it. Anyway to check? It's a new starter, my old starter was just spinning and spinning too. remember i changed nothing but change from a G240 to G260 and added the trans dust shield.

              Try hitting it with something.

Totally serious. It might knock the gear into engaging

If the starter is spinning and the bendix gear isnt engaging, it means your solenoid isnt getting a signal.

Are your windows acting up also? Have you tried swapping the starter signal wire to the other post?

Windows work fine, I have the K5 wire relay grounded so that my windows work. I haven't tried changing the terminals but that's exactly how the terminals were when it was working..

Do yo hear the solenoid popping/activating when you crank it? You could try switching the starter signal wire or grabbing a teat light to see if your starter solenoid is getting power during cranking. That will rule out whether its a bad solenoid or not.

If you dont have a test light, just run a jumper wire front the power post to the signal post to listen for engagement.

Take the big red wire off the starter and give +12 to the firing wire. That will engage the solenoid but not give power to the starter motor. You should be able to hear the solenoid kick out.

                            DEER KNILLERSON

Hit your solonoid with a blunt object.

Mine did the same thing, except it shorted out so the starter would spin even without the key in the igniton.

I tapped it with a pry bar and it worked.

Solenoid didn't engage, I brought it to advance auto parts to have it tested and once again, the starter, which is new, didn't work. Oh boy..
