Clutch Recommendations: getrag260, high-horse 3.0, daily driver

I'm up in Lynchburg Virginia right now, and noticed the first signs of heavy clutch slip this afternoon, on the way to lunch. In 2nd gear at WOT, it will not put the power down. I'm running an E30 M3 sport HD clutch with the it's HD pressure plate.

Should I get the Ireland 6-puck clutch, it's available in sprung or un-sprung. With that clutch, do you need a different pressure plate? It makes about 270hp adn 260 ft pounds.

What flywheel are you using?

You could run a SPEC clutch.

I am running a heavy duty stock clutch and it was worked great. Stronger pedal and seems to grab great.

I guess I should give some more info.
I've got an aluminum flywheel in it right now, and am concerned that the addition of a grabby race clutch will make the car a pain in the ass for daily commuting. However, I don't want to put in another Sachs HD clutch and have to replace it again after 40k miles.

Anybody on here running a 6-puck clutch with an aluminum flywheel?
Looks like I'll be doing this over Thanksgiving, hopefully I only need a clutch disk, don't want to cough up for a pressure plate as well, but it might be necessary.

Bobby, yea, a 318is would be the ticket for me for daily driving. But an eta would suffice.

dont do it. i just got an es for the winter....(wife nicknamed it slowboat).... and i just cant seem to drive it. my e30m50 w/ cams gets better gas milage, and is a HECK of a lot more fun to drive. these cars are to be driven.....so drive it till it drops. cheers, jason

F'n A, I just got approx. 27mpg roundtrip to Lynchburg this weekend, about 300 miles on the highway, plus about 50 around town. Not too bad for a 3.0 I figure, I was grannying it though (clutch).

I second this post. I have a Spec Stage 3 clutch in my e30s52 that makes about 280rwhp, and I have no issues. I use a UUC Stage 2, 8.5lb flywheel with a 1999 e36 M3 5-spd tranny mated to it all. I don't know how that eqautes to your situation, but I do like the Spec clutches.

If it's for DD then you want some slip so a "street clutch" is what I would say to get.

How "streetable" is it? How stiff is the pedal?

It's ok, I find I need to rev it a little higher than a stock clutch before I engage it, or the clutch won't grab smoothly. And the pedal feel is very nice. Not too stiff, but not exactly nice in stop and go traffic for more than 15 or 20 minutes. Compared to our other e30's, e36's and Euro 3.8L M5, its' really quite stiff, but not nearly as hard, effort wise, as our 65' GT Mustang.

I assume the pressure plate is toast too, it's probably gotten pretty hot a few times, so I've decided to go with a new Sachs HD p-plate, and the sprung Ireland clutch disk, at the advice of a few racers. Parts should be here soon, and hopefully I can install the goods over Thanksgiving.
