m50 swap wiring problems. Charging issue, Temp gauge issue.

Like the title states...having issues. Couldnt get continuety thru the e34 525 non vanos harness so i made a custom starter wire, as well as a custom alternator power wire out of thick universal battery cable (2 seperate) . Ran it from the 12v power block in the engine bay to the B+ on both the starter and alternator. Grounded the alternator straight to the chassis, Tested the alternator and it came out good. Not putting juice back into the battery when runnning. What am i missing?? Any tips? Almost to the point of taking it somewhere and paying them to do it as I dont have alot of time to fol with it due to work etc.

Also looking for any tips on a non-op temp gauge.

    Engine is a NVm50 with a e34 525i harness.

    Any feedback appreciated. :o

Is the alternator getting a clean signal wire through the cluster? The cluster has to be plugged in for it to work.

this.. the exciter wire needs to be hooked up to the cluster. it goes through the C101, blue wire.

so ground post on alternator needs to be hooked into the smaller wire on the alternator harness? and not ground wired straight to chassis?

the exciter wire is something different. there should be 3 terminals on the alt - one to the battery, one to ground, and one to the exciter circuit on the instrument cluster.

where does the exciter wire circuit hook into the alternator? do you have a pic ?

I don't, but it's one of the smaller termina.s check the ETM? it gives post names on the charging diagram I think.

I wouldn't recommend dealer, I got both the e36 forward sensor and the rearward e30 m20b25 temp sensor for about $6 each at advance auto parts, I'm sure autozone will have them as well. BWD parts, and both sensors for a total of $12. Both sensors have worked flawlessly
