Vanos &non-vanos intake cam

What if you put a non vanos exhaust cam in a vanos (m50b25TU) would it sound like its cammed at idle? Are the lifts different? Just asking cause I put it in mine when putting mine together and there isn't any big difference just wana know if it's wasn't a good idea.

And it's in there in the first place due to a buddy snapping my regular exhaust cam

non vanos 1992 exhaust camshaft is the same as 1993-1995 vanos exhaust camshaft, same lift, same spec and timing tool will work

Vanos is somerthing i still dont totally understand...

but from what i do know..

the vanos cams arent differnt. just the vanos shifts the cam to a more power efficient position.

the vanos intake cams are vastly different. they aren't interchangeable with non-vanos intake cams.

because m50's never had exhaust vanos, you won't have any issues on that front.

the VANOS itself alters the cam advance/retard via a helical gear that is hydraulically actuated via oil pressure by a solenoid, either on/off or continuously (on m52tu's, m54's, and later motors). that helical gear meshes between the cam sprocket and the cam gear on the camshaft itself. those gears are the main difference between NV and vanos cams (lift/duration may also be different).

What you're looking for is a Non-Vanos Intake cam. You can use it as an exhaust cam on a VANOS motor.
