    ★★★update★★★

I had previously brought my car to two mechanics, one being a driveshaft specialty shop in Islandia NY before finding Marty at Long Island Driveshafts / Supershafts in Mastic Beach NY. Marty was the gentleman who was helping to diagnosis the issue during this thread. he was able to correct the alignment issues that the previous owner attempted to correct, but only made worse.

I am going to link Marty to this thread so he can explain what he did to correct the issue, I don't think I would explain it correctly, but basically everything was misaligned, and he reseated everything and the car runs smooth as glass, I have a great deal more power in terms of pure accelerating force, and the new alignment has cured a number of other issues; front wheel shimmy, various squeeks and vibrations, and my gas mileage has increase 3-4 MPG already. I really couldn't be happier and Marty was extremely fair and worked quickly to solve my problem.

I am a big proponent of quality service, and Supershafts provided it.

See there, not the revshift guibo.

After a long talk with Marty I understand that driveline was misaligned like crazy but I'm glad he was able to work it out. Now all is well and I'm glad you get to fully enjoy that car!

OK, sorry I havent been around in the past few days, had some business to attend to. Marty hasnt be able to have his membership confirmed by the admins, so he emailed his response and I am copying and pasting.

Thanks for the greeting guys, and nice speaking with Adam from Revshift.

The issue with Alex's BMW was the install and some monkeying around butchery, which was no fault of Alex's.

With many BMW's and Benz, Audi, ect (some imps and now U.S. cars) using flex couplers or flex discs or Guibo joint... they aren't designed to have more than a degree or so of misalignment from 0.0 , especially in the section of shaft that has the flex coupler in one section of a 2 piece shaft or at all in a 2 pc with dual FC's

As little as .020 misalignment with an aftermarket Revshift style disc that is designed not to break under serious driving and launching with power it is even more critical to make the misalignment or angles 0.0.

The people that did the modifications to Alex's BMW had multiple alignment issues which i had gave Alex options of what i can alleviate quickly and will be fine as long as we aren't going to use all the potential this car has and use the factory FC which is a softer design and will absorb the misalignment.

The second option was spending more time and involvement making the powertrain in the right 0.0 pattern and then lose the other angle at the driveline center.

The best way to do this, and that works best for me, is to use a Yankee caliper and a inside groove caliper. i use them with the tri-pod sections lined up first in the vertical section and make that to within .008, then i do the horizontal with the tri-pod sections now lined up and then adjust to again .008, then back to the vertical.

This takes some time as the vertical can sometimes change when you make the horizontal adjustment, i had deciceded to make the angles correct totally so there would be no issues.

Then moved to the center which was a little more involved and then back to the front to re-adjust and alleviate the now again changed angle.

When these FC are to far out of aligment they act as if you had a seized joint, if you have ever experienced a seized u-joint that operates on 4 degrees then you know Alex's issue was deadly to be dealing with.

And vibrations like that are almost always misalignment or something is seized / broken, not rear ends or shaft balancing issues, so make sure you go to experienced shops.

Tell the guy in the other thread with the staked in joints to see a real driveline shop and they should be able to do it if they have the set ups, they can be changed but they must be centered or trued to the shaft, which can be done, don't attempt to do that yourself.

Marty can be reached at Supershafts.com, his email and phone number are listed on the website, and he has recently started his own forum, which I think will be helpful to the community. I hope his explanation is helpful, his username on this site is supershafts, in case you had any questions.
