    MAF Sensor Question

Is there a difference between the MAF sensor used in the stock OBDI MAF's that come in the M5x/S5x equipped cars and the sensor that is inside of the 3.5" MAF that we all want to upgrade to?

I want to know to potentially save myself some money when it comes to upgrading my intake system. If I can simply buy the larger housing and swap my current sensor into it, that would be much easier than trying to find, or buying a brand new sensor.

    Thanks!
    My previous build (currently E30-less)

my first question is, why do you think you need a bigger MAF?

As far as I know, that won't work. The sensor is expecting to be in a certain size housing. When you change the size of the housing, the "calibration" is off. The DME will think it's getting a smaller amount of air than it is.

More airflow my man! An engine is basically an air pump, so being slightly intuitive, getting more air in would yield power gains......

M3PO - There would be a tune for the bigger housing. I am going to do some research and actually look up the part numbers.

I did this swap on my 3.5" hfm equipped M3 and my stock sized OBDI sensor from my current S52 E30, and it worked just fine. I just wanted to double check.
