Whatever else is true, BMW did *not* think this through. There was no intention to mount a 24v in the e30 model; it's purely accidental that we can do it as easily as we can.

I'd rather get the m42 mounts than the akg ones given they're nearly the same price. That's not on the wiki...at least I didn't see it there.

I mean they thought 'this' through in the fact that they reuse/recycle everything from parts to dimensions to bolt patterns. 2010 335i trans will bolt to an M20 for instance.

Heres one reason to avoid using the mounts designed for another car.

Don't worry too much. It only did about 550 dollars worth of damage.

I now run the AKG poly mounts to avoid another catastrophe like this.

          How does the NVH compare?

Interesting thread despite the seemingly obvious routes that are out there. I recall a recent discussion on the lean angle of the motor compared with the intended angle of the 5-series mounts.... this got me wondering about the stresses being applied beyond what was designed for on the 5er mounts (which I'm also using with no perceived ill effects, 5k miles later).

          See link: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ght=lean+angle

Perhaps I/we need to consider the AKG 70A poly mounts in place of the 5er version. Yikes just checked, $200 - no wonder the alternatives are so popular!

Can use the Condor Speed Shop solid mounts.

I have never seen an e28 mount break like that, not even with a 400hp 24v turbo.

^+1. Never seen a E28 mount do that. Shim the hell out of them? They dont like that.

I've broke two sets of those mounts. All were OEM from the dealer. No shims.

Check them with a prybar. Mine just calasped into them themselfs and I had a vibration from the intake resting on the brake booster.

they will rip, they all do. My track car only lasted about two seasons until they ripped, switched to AKG polys and been fine for the last 4 seasons. Kept an old e28 green mount in my box as a spare. THe AKG mounts are great. I'm sure the condor speed shop and revshift are good too, but they're newer to market and I have no experience with them

Can anyone who's gone from E28 mounts to poly (AKG) mounts comment on the difference in NVH? I am avoiding poly in my suspension/subframe etc for comfort... but the 70A is supposed to be close to rubber. Thoughts?

I just installed the red's (dont remember which durometer this is) in a swap car a month or so ago and it was a noticeable increase in NVH but nothing too severe.
