how far down can I shave my intake?

Some pictures I've seen on the forum show intakes that look like theyre ground down even past the level where the fins are. How thick are the walls of these intakes? I shaved my fins and the intake is still touching my brake booster

How far did you slot the brake booster over?

1/2". That's as far as you can go or else the clevis won't line up(?)

I think I can move the engine forward a little if I rotate my mounts more.. but I still might want to take more material off the intake. How far can you shave before you start making holes?

You have to relocate the clevis. See that thread where they mod it. If not youll go through boosters like crazy. I moved mine 1"+

I did modify it. I figured since the clevis only gets moved about 1/2" , that's as far as the booster itself could go. Right now my pushrod has a straight shot into the booster

Use the right booster and mounts, then there is no problem.

It's only slightly touching and I can actually see light in between.. all its gonna do is cause some vibration in the cabin which I already have with the harsh engine and transmission mounts.

Just asked this question because I swear I saw a picture of 1 guy who had the side of his intake ground down pretty far.

( build thread with pics of my booster mod. )

Are you running stock E28 M5 mounts?

Idk what happen to yours but I had mine for a little more than 20k and they're still pretty solid with no rips/tears

Hard driving happened. If you drop 2k+ into a motor, quality motor mount are good peace of mind. The E28 mounts are not designed for this purpose

^as ive said before i believe something else is going on there as you managed to break the base of the mount in half. I run E28 mounts in everything *unshimmed* and have never had a failure.

They are from 2 different cars (no shims on the set i pulled off my swap). Just because it hasn't happen to you doesn't make it impossible. Its unbelievable what cheap asses some of you guys are. But if it works for your customers and they have not come back with failures more power to ya, but this is my personal DD and drive it very hard so using motor mounts that fit correctly is ideal for me.
