What is the best Aux Fan?

I'd bet it's just as true for e30s. I'll probably have a real gauge installed shortly, I'll let you know. I am not sure if there's room for the e36 or e30 stock clutch fan with the M50 swap, but I intend to find out. If there are clearance issues, I've heard (same source as the gauge info...) that the e36 318i clutch fan is thinner from front to mounting point, so I may try to use that.Comment

Im currently looking to replace my electric fan experiment(2 fwd early '90's mazda ones)as they are not able to keep up with the A/C on/hot ambeint temp.
My situation is Im not running the engine driven fan.
So then, what do you guys recommend in terms of a standalone electric fan(s) with the option to retain the 2 speeds?
Cheers

Dan, you might be able to answer this.
For the fan switch - it just controls the ground then, going into the fan? Say I wanted to wire it to run on two temps - would I need two relays - one for the low speed and one for the high? Then run a resister in the 12v source on the low speed?
Here's what I picked up on Saturday:
30 AMP Auto Relay
Bunch of 18 guage wire
Simple switch (which I'll be using to activate the relay when it's not running itself)
LED that I wanted to wire in to turn on when I have the fan switched on or when it's running by itself
IM trying to figure out the best way to wire in my fan. I only want the switch to work when the car is on, otherwise the fan will run using the temp switch. Anyone got some hints?
Started my own thread here to get more views and poassibly just start up a new one. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=73039Last edited by Sean; 08-14-2006, 08:33 AM.- Sean HayesComment

ha, funny this thread comes up when i start planning to run one with my swap. my plan was to first relocate the aux. fan into the other side of the rad and somehow mount it, then re-wire it so that it only working @ highspeed and that i can turn on the fan manually from the confort of the driver's seat. highspeed only becuz im going to be running a m42 rad with my m50.
i think this is very simple way to have an electrical fan... my a/c is dead and i dont plan to use/have it so might as well make use of the fan that just sits there.

maybe you can wire your switch into an acc. lead so it will only come on when the car is on?Originally posted by SeanIM trying to figure out the best way to wire in my fan. That's the idea.
I jsut thought of this. I'm sure you all know the door gong - maybe I cna connect it the 12v wire for that - since the gong only operates after the car is on anyway! (or the key is in the ignition.)- Sean HayesComment

what would be even more certain is if you connect it to your radio's acc lead....yes i know its a long way from the fan in the engine bay but you will get your fan turning on the the key in the ignition..thats what im planning on doing:)Originally posted by SeanThat's the idea.

I did that, only problem I found is if you turn the radio off the fans turn off too. So dont tap the white wire ;)Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

I used the e36 2 speed switch on mine. I reversed the power feed, feeding power through the ground, and connecting to the respective low/high speed existing e3o aux fan circuits.
Cheers'
