    blower motor cover mod?

saw a few things about this I think, but my searches aren't bringing up much except clearance issues after the engine is installed. Do I have to worry about my blower motor cover at all when I'm dropping in the S50? Will there be interference? TIA

There might be a little interference with the wiring, but nah- i'd keep the insulation- it adds 10hp.

Just grind all the studs flat and you should be good.

I've never had to modify it on any of the several conversions I've done.

i'd like to take the route you did jordan and just leave it alone, but I keep reading about people having to shave down the studs. Anyone got any close up pics of how the motor sits in relation to the blower motor cover?

Something you may want to look at, M3 wiring covers. However the blower motor cover shouldn't have any clearance problems.

so if there are no clearance issues than why are people grinding down the studs? This is all going into a '91 318is, i think the wiring covers were the same on that 318 as on my m3. I'll have to check that out, but I guess I'll have to wait and see

its a lot easier to fish the wiring harness. and if you ever have a heater hose loosen, you dont trash you hands. i took the insulation off my first one (its not fun) but not on any of the others. no need to grind down the studs, just grab with a pliers and wiggle back and foreth till it pops off. cheers, jason.

i have a 91 318is and here's my engine bay shot. i didn't see any studs grinded when i installed the harness covers. i broke one of the clips, hence the tie strap;)

that install looks really clean. I hope mine looks that good when I'm done. thanks for all the tips guys, this is going to be one mean machine when I'm done with it.

bmws50b30 - have you weighed your car at all with the s50 in it? is that the 320i brake booster I see in your engine bay? did you have to shave the intake manifold fins? from the last pic it looks like there is plenty of clearance

they should make those for the m20 harness

Anyone know if #s 23 and 24 are needed in that pic? What exactly do those do? I plan on getting the 2 main covers.

you need #23. It screws onto the blower motor cover and then #22 snaps over the top of #23

I don't know what #24 is for off the top of my head

You can modify it to work with an m20. Ed installed them onto his previous red car if I recall correctly.
