    Diag plug and firewall covers

Swap is nearly complete, car runs and drives so I'm about to begin the process of going back and deleting the uneccessary items and cleaning up the wiring harness. I'm running a '97 OBD2 S52 with M50 manifold. How is everyone going about mounting the OBD2 coil pack connector and the diagnostic plug in an "oem" fashion? I've seen some awesome, clean installs on this board for these things so I'm hoping some of you have some tips on oem BMW parts for these before I start hacking things together.

Can everything but the new C101/X20 be cut off and the wires capped here? I don't want to leave the 2 extra connectors just hanging around for no reason.

How do I install all of the e30 M3 firewall covers? I bought the full set but have never been able to find any numbers for screws etc to go with them. the nuts that I took off don't fit through the holes to mount the covers and I'd rather not end up having to drill and tap new holes to bolt onto.

there are studs on the firewall cover that it mounts to with plastic nuts. it definitely fits..

a for cutting the wires, I usually remove any extra wires entirely, clipping them at the DME connector. with OBD2 you'll need some wires from the X6031 as well as the X20.

the C101/X20 mounts inside the harness cover. dunno about the diagnostics plug, I think that's in a bracket of some sort. With OBD2 I'd be tempted to run it inside the car with a standard OBD2 port instead of the round 20pin connector.

Thanks nando, my issue with the firewall covers is the studs line up but I have no way to mount any of the hardware to them as the plastic is too thick, and the holes are too small diameter. The studs are too short to stick out beyond the plastic. Is there a part number for the mounting nuts I can use?

My C101 is complete and I have already pulled a couple of wires from the x6031 connector for the C101. I may be ok in that regard, I guess what I CAN do is find out which wires go to the in-cab OBD2 port but it's not needed as I have access to GT1 whenever needed at my friend's shop. The rest of the wires like the secondary o2 sensors, air pump etc I will just remove from the harness.

I think there's only a couple that hold mine on. one might be that flat washer/zip tie thing. some of the studs I had to remove.

Yep you need to look at which studs it uses and break the other ones off to get it to sit flush. For the diag connector trim the metal bracket on the corner of battery tray to clip it to.
