S52 head on a M52

    S52 head on a M52

    I have been looking to see if a S52 head can fit on a M52. My moms 328iS E36 is leaking coolant and one of the possibilities is a blown head gasket. And if thats the case i was going to get my mom a new head and give her more HP. Can the S52 head just slap right on a M52 block or dose it need a lot of new crap on the bottom end?

    I don't think just swapping the head will make any more power unless you include the entire valvetrain. In any event, do some research, but I believe the head swap will work without bottom end work.

      ive been trying to do some independent research but all i keep seeing is M54 stuff with a S52 and visa versa. I keep looking though. But the whole valvetran will be from the S52. Maybe a cam er something. Definatly some port and polish work.

        heads are identical
        '87 325ic, powered by S50.

            Well that's nice combine that with a obd1 intake and the car should make more power too sweet.

                        Yup. M50, S50, M52, S52 all use the 400 casting.

                          Do a war chip. most reliable option, and it will give you at least 25hp.

                            who thought 20+hp. It's like 2hp maybe or maybe minus 2hp without a tune.

                              M52 and S52 heads and valves are the same. The only thing different is the cams. I have a set of S52 cam I would be willing to part with for $350 shipped. Let me know.
