That'll work fine, however...
Harbor freight engine stand (might save on shipping) + run to lowes for the metric bolts. Lowes/Home depot had the 90mm/100mm bolts. People say to use this length (I guess in an effort to match the length of the stock bell housing bolts) however, the bolts are far too long. They thread in at least 15mm past their full thread engagement which does nothing for thread stripping (load capacity) from an engineering standpoint.

Agreed, If you have a Northern Tool or Harbor Freight nearby, go there and pick up an engine stand. You can even use the transmission bolts to connect the engine to the stand, but use washers to space it correctly. This is probably the absolute cheapest route to go. If you want to get he correct bolts you can, but I used washers and the larger bell housing bolts

I used a harbor freight stand with the transmission bolts. My m50 sat on the stand for a good 2 months and actually only had 3 bolts in it.91 318is M50 swapped

Remove the 8 bolts?
You'll also have to take the starter off to put it on a stand.
Edit sorry didn't see your previous post. Try putting the end of a pry bar in the tooth of the wheel and bracing it against something. That's what I had to do when torquing mine down.
