After 2 3 donuts i can hear valve tick like on a m20. It does that for 20 30 seconds then it shuts up. I have a m52tub25. Chaned the oil 4000 5000km ago with motul xcess 8100 5w40. I cut all the oil pans windage trays and a bit of the m52 trey so that i can fit the pan. Could that be the cause? Oil pressure switch does not light up. Could it cause bigger damage?

I would be more helpful if the rpm range was given during burnouts.
Are you talking about bouncing off the revlimiter most of the time, or can you control the go pedal well enough to maintain a more solid peak rpm?
Length of time of donuts as well. Oil starvation is a real possibility depending on how long the donut lasts and the path and position the engine experiences. My previous build (currently E30-less)

no burnouts just donuts, if i race it or do burnouts it does not happen, only if i do donuts i kept it 1st gear at about 4-5.5k range gently, it happened some time ago when the temp gauge was still on blue but i figured it was because the oil was cold and thick. a similar situation was on cold starts, i had Mobil 10w-40 oil and when i cold started it the lifters were noisy for 7-10 seconds then they would shut up, i tried cranking it without it starting to build the pressure but still happened. could the oil starve when doing donuts not cause the oil pressure light to come on?Comment

It's the windage tray, it's needed so the suction tube gets minimal exposure to air/starvation of oil. Your pressure switch my not turn on as it's not sensitive enough to fluctuations of pressures... E30s oil pressure switch opens above 2.1 psi as it shows in bmw diagramshttp://www.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/e30/e30_91.pdf page 34... But having just a little air in the system could cause lower pressures to the lifters which will cause the ticking until air has purged out of the passages... Which is why we see cars in racing or cars that experience long durations of g-force need upgraded windage trays or dry sump systems to maintain proper oil pressuresLast edited by KoKoSe7eN; 02-11-2014, 06:21 PM.Comment

Yup, you're starving the oil pump with the G forces of the rotation. That's why it's ticking... just about every bearing in the motor hates being starved...It's the windage tray, it's needed so the suction tube gets minimal exposure to air/starvation of oil. a donut is a burnout, just in a circle. You're sloshing the oil around and probably sucking in some air.'87 325ic, powered by S50.Comment
