should make similar numbers to the S50 with the same cams, tune etc but you wouldnt want the piston to sit 2mm lower if true as this would be crap for compression and mixture motion89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

anyone taken a little extra from the block or gone for a thinner gasket? that is what id be looking at to reap the true benefits as long as there are no interface issues. the numbers you quoted above are low even for a mustang and this is probably why89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

Actually a stock M54B30 is advertised to make 228 hp at the crank.
I'm not sure if there is an interference issue, but the vanos blocks are have a 210 mm block height and the bi vanos and non vanos engines are 211 mm. The 1 mm difference must be a mass produced manufacturing safety margin built into the design. A person custom building an engine has the luxury of blue printing the engine to make the absolute amount of power by optimizing the measurements. I have read on bimmerforums of members making the same or more power then a S50 with the M54B30 internals, so anything is possible with the right ingredients.Comment

was more looking at the torque....and comparing to a stock S50B30.Actually a stock M54B30 is advertised to make 228 hp at the crank.

The valve relief on the piston are really small compared to m50. I'm not sure how to measure weather the valves and piston would kiss. Hence why I'm hesitant on doing the cams.................................................. ...................sigpic

surely not that hard to increase the depth while it is apart? you'll want to upgrade cams at some point it is a natural evolution of modding an engine89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

Unfortunately rebuilding the engine is as far as my own personal knowledge (and wallet) took me during my summer break. I'm sure I could do once I've finished studying. :D
Ill get cams after I sort my bushes and ecu.
But if it wasn't my daily I wouldn't have put factory pistons and conrods. Would have aftermarket custom pistons.
Oh to be an apprentice................................................... ...................sigpic
