Dan, did you get your exhaust done? You mind if I ask where you're getting your exhaust fabricated? I'm about to embark on an engine swap myself, and this is one of the last things I have to do, and it'd help to know somewhere that won't ream me or use mild steel piping together with crush bent tubes.

I'm seriously considering to go the way that C///M did, which is to use the stock E36 M3 midpipe and exhaust, and put on a few custom brackets.

Dan, nice score on the low mileage auto car engine for $200 - and an e34 one so it had the right oil pan, eh?

FredK: im getting the exhaust done at a place called east coast custom exhaust, it just opened, and they quoted me $200 for all the work and the cat im going to use. good price, we'll see how their quality is when im done.

Dave: yea, i scored huge on the motor, came with the pan and ALL accessories.

        mini update:

went away for a little while, only working on the car 2 nights a week and a sundays if im lucky, so not too much time with the car. its real close. i need to replace my starter, hook up the power steering lines, fill the coolant and PS and fuckin rock n' roll. its really really almost almost done, just today i put in the throttle cable, did all tie rods and finished up the trans bracket welding.

I've been ragging the shit out of my M20 in attempts to break it. That way I have my valid excuse to the wife to replace the engine.

Nice score on your M50, I hope to find a deal like that myself.

              little update:

havent worked on the car in two weeks due to time constraints, but finally got back to it, after that starting issue it was a relief to hear it start and idle perfecly. sounds mean with no exhaust

another little update... these pics are from about 2 weeks ago. haha. looks almost the same now except a little more organized in the engine engine bay. during these pictures the wiring was ripped apart while i was diagnosing the starting issue. I already have the s14 wiring covers and all the little bullshit to clean up the engine bay, so my final pics will include all that stuff, this is the second to last set of pics...

so now im down to hooking up powersteering lines, toss in a new slave cyl, exhaust shop and alignment, and she's ready to rock. i cant wait

                        Hi Dan,
i've been tracking the work you're doing on your car and i just wanted you to know that you're doing an excellent job and i enjoy reading your progress/posts.... i'll be doing the same project on my car(92 ic mtech pkg) anyway,i also bought the same kind of engine(non vanos off a 92 525i for $350 w/ all acc+ ecu+wires) my question is,have you figured out the wiring diagram or the pin connections on your swap?.there was something you mentioned about some of the wiring charts being posted on the forums that doesn't seem to be 100% accurate.i was wondering if you can kindly pm me your wiring chart as we almost have the same project going-i'm basically following your footsteps on the swap and your pics are my guide(i like the tranny bracket-be doing that too).for now,i'm going by addisimo's wiring chart but,i'll be waiting for your reply/write up b4 i start making my own wiring harness connector....thanks and good luck, rob

addissmo's is very close, just use his a a guide and do a little research and diag., not trying to be a dick, but it seems all the cars are different, im not sure what worked on my car will work on your car. it would be best for you to use whats out there and MAKE sure it works in your case. its really not too hard.

that said. the swap is DONE! i have a few little things to button up, but i already returned the car i was borrowing and i've been driving my car all day. i cant express how smooth this motor feels in this car. like its supposed to be there. car feels great. cant wipe the smile off my face.

                          P.S. i already want s52

yes, the 3.0 and 3.2 motors are a totally different ballgame. I drove a 2.5 m50 swap a few months ago and I thought there was definitely something left to be desired. Start saving your pennies and swap out that motor for an s50, should be a direct drop in at this point I think.

                                Cool swap, nice car....
