    M52 w/EWS3. Body harness question.

    Hey guys,

So I've just about got my M52b28 out of my '98 E39 parts car.

I want to keep the EWS3 system (for now) due to cost. (And I want to keep OBD2)

How much/what parts of the body harness do I need?
Right now I have the entire E39 dash out and access to the whole body harness loom.

I thought I'd ask here first just in case someone knows, before I dig into wiring diagrams.

    Thanks!

What cost advantage is there to keep the EWS?

The easiest thing is to grab the EWS ring out of the steering column, the antenna amp, and the EWS box and wire them up in the E30 in their respective locations (if you want full functionality) or just stick them all together and tape the chip to the antenna ring.

FWIW, it's really not EWS3. it's still EWS 2, they just consolidated a lot of the electronics.

Cost is the main advantage (run the stock ECU without tuning.)

I know I need the ews box and antenna ring, it's the "wiring them up in the e30" bit that I want more information on. Hence this thread.

Really? Because the box under the steering column says EWS3 on it.

All you really need if you dont plan to integrate the system is to wire the antenna ring and data transmission line to the ECU. You dont technically need to run the starter wiring through the EWS box.

yeah. EWS3 is still EWS2 technically. they basically consolidated the electronics to 1 box. It uses the same algorithm as EWS2.

EWS3.3 is completely different from EWS3. confusing? yes!

Just to be safe, I pulled the entire front half of the body harness! (from under the dash)
