OBD 2 will always be more difficult to get through the BAR. All of the emissions equipment from the donor car needs to be present. Its the main reason I went OBD1 on my swap

i think maybe 1 or 2 OBD2 swaps havae been BAR'd, but pretty sure they were buddy buddy with the ref. OBD1 seems to be the way to go.
Thanks guys way to help me out!
there is a car out there that has this and also he said that all it needs is an ECU to get the car Bar'd. Is the ECU an easy part or tough? I thought it would be an easier thing to do. if it hasn't been done what are the issues he might be facing because of it... like what is keeping him back from just getting it done or does it seem like there is more issues than just getting the ecu set up.
It just needs an OBD1 ECU? Seems sketchy. Id find one to borrow or something to make sure the car is running good before I fork over the money unless its dirt cheap. Could turn into a money pit though

Why would an ECU keep a car from being BARd? Unless the ECU is chipped for bolt on mods, in which case engine must be returned to stock and a new chip must be purchased for said ECU.

see i am not to familiar with the steps here. he says it needs an ECU to be bar'd what are you thinking this is? because he hasn't said anything about being chipped which i am sure he would have said.
The ECU has to be listed on the refs computer as being used on the engine you are claiming is in the car. The S50 had a specific ECU (OBD1). it is not the same one as an S52 (OBD2). As mentioned OBD1/2 have very different smog setups. I suggest going OBD 1 for simplicity.
I have read that the BAR refs are/have asking for the DME specific to the S50.--1 yr. 1995 production-- Each DME has a vin # on it that can be searched for its original install.
They can also check the data on the block. S50 =3.0L S52=3.2L. So you're trying to BAR anS52 as an S50. GL my $.02
