Adding oil pressure & oil temp gauges, how?

Wiring for both seems straight forward, but Im curious where you will get the readings from?

I am thinking about buying a spare oil filter housing to use, but not sure where to drill and tap.

Has anyone done this? pics? tips?

    TIA

easiest solution is to get an oil distribution block such as:

This replaces the oil pressure sensor on the oil filter housing and has space for two additional sensors.

You have an S50 swap right? Fuck I can't remember who has what anymore. If u do then get a distribution block like JT designs. Ron Stygar and Jim Powell have great write ups on installing vdo gauges on m/s 50 engines.

That is PERFECT! If I read it right, I can mount both of my senders there for temp and pressure! thank you!!

you can mount both senders on the distribution block, but I would remote mount the pressure sender as it's quite big and heavy. I have mine mounted on the driver's side shock tower with a stainless braided line connecting it to the distribution block.

I bought one of these. Haven't used it yet but seems like it should do the trick.

I'll probably tap the on at some point for temp.

The rally road one I came across awhile ago and seems a decent affordable option.

I've been driving the piss out my S50 for a year on urethane mounts with the pressure sender mounted right to the filter housing. I bought the VDO one with the dummy light switch which I have hooked up to the stock cluster light.

No oil temp gauge yet, still trying to decided how to get an accurate reading. I'm not sure about those disto blocks since they don't position the temp sensor in contact with flowing oil.

The oil temp sensor really needs to be in the pan.

Another option is to get an oil filter housing from a Z3M S52 which has a port for the oil temp sensor built in. Then you can add a pressure sensor to the oil warning light port and you are all set.

Looks like you can buy a brand new one online for under $200 (ECS Tuning) or find a used one at a junkyard or on ebay.

here's a good thread from bfc on remote mounting the pressure sender. You may be ok direct mounting it to the distribution block, but why not do it right the first time and not risk a failure.
