I think there's more knowledge about timing Schricks on bimmerforums. Anyway, it seems that most of the problem comes from installing the cams using just the cam locking tool so that the lobes face each other at TDC.

I'll be doing a Schrick install eventually...

yea, ive seen it twice in the last month. turner stands by the fact that schrick is designed to be installed with the factory blocks....straight up. not true. we tripple checked and realigned.....the car still fell on its face above 2500rpm and tripped a vanos code. we gave up and took it in.

the schrick cams were 8deg advanced from the factory blocks.

they used a dial indicator to set the cams. ran perfect. tech was supprized there were no bent valves. sunbelts or schrick.....dont trust the cam blocks.

no doubt about it, turner does some nice work. but if someone offered me 20k, i would consider selling my s52e30m3. fresh (<10k mile) s52, all orig no rust, every thing else replaced.

almost anyones car is for sale.....for the right price. cheers, jason

agreed... turner is one of the few people i would trust to work on my car otehr than me... but 25k is a but much just to swap an engine considering many people here do an excellent job on clean swaps for 1/5 the price

they wouldn't be charging that much if there weren't people willing to pay it. you can be sure that some people (at least 1 person here) have paid that and more to have the tms badge on their trunklid.

I can see paying extra for better quality products... I have gladly paid more for real ACSchnitzer equipment and the like because of the better quality of the parts... however TMS does not use anyting in their swaps that isnt available otherwise. I have several TMS parts on my car(enough to warrant a drunk badge) but i do not see how they get away for doubling or tripling the cost of the swap. This is not to bash TMS... they do amazing work and offer great products and their track record speaks for itself... i just dont see how they can charge that and still have people pay...

Does Turner use all new parts? An S52 short block from BMW is around $5-6K. I'm sure all of the other parts add up, and the number of man hours to build the car up is probably close to around 30. There better be Schrick cams, shorty headers, and a custom tune included for that price. :)

The swap takes a lot of labor. That is, technicians working in the shop might be better off working on a clutch job in 4 hours and charging for 8, or other jobs like that. So the cost to Turner might be higher than just the number of hours of labor required to do the swap--there's an opportunity cost.

DanGillan did his swap in essentially a few days, if you subtract the time he spent waiting for parts and custom fab on his exhaust.

I am sure they used rebuilt engines, and probably rebuilt or new everything else. Doubtful they do any junkyard runs :) I would expect lots of things people over look are replaced as well, like fuel pumps etc.

Turner has about 10-15 m50 varients laying around the shop at any given time as i have seen so they would probably plop one of those in your e30. I would be interested to see if they did anything different than i did... and no this didnt include any performance mods to teh engine...

i didnt mean to take over this thred like this and i dont know a great deal of details about what TMS does in their swaps i was just shooting the shit with one of their techs one day he mentioned thats what they get for a swap after he noticed mine...
