I'm saving the money and preparing to do this swap over this coming winter, so it looks like about $2k is what I'll need to get the project off the ground. It's going to just be a stock M50, I'll worry about buidling it up later. I can't wait to get this going.

Nice car, couple questions for ya.

Were you able to use the E30 booster since the OBD-2 intake manifold is not as wide?

Are you swapping to an OBD-1 manifold before putting in the Schricks?

            S50B30

Paid $3k for the complete motor.
Probably another $2k in motor-swap related parts.

Only paid $800 for the car though, so for about $7.5k including suspension and body mods I've got a pretty sweet car, I think.

So about $2k-2500 is the magic number to get it done? Right on.

I should be able to get a lot of stuff, probably the motor itself for a decent price.

I've gotta say, after doing the 24v swap twice, I would recommend against doing an M50 or M50tu as a "mod". Its definitely a good upgrade if you have a blown M20, but not a big enough power increase to justify pulling out a healthy motor.

                        HI,

I used a modified 320i booster, and I am concerned with installing the OBD1 intake(I have one) as it definately looks wider, particularly in the plenum width.
I don't have a lot of clearence with the current setup, so I'll wait till I start fitting it, as i do want it installed along with the cams.
                        Any info concerning this appreciated.

On another note, I can't say I'd pull an healthy M20 out either just to install an M50, but maybe more so with an M52, but Im kinda biased I guess:D . A friend has a healthy 89 325i, and although it is no contest
between our cars in a drag race, he's not that far off in the twisty stuff.
I've never done a turbo install in a 325i, but that mod would put you up, and more likely beyond, the m50/52 swap.
                        My two cents....

The OBD-I manifold will fit with a 320i booster in there.
