All used parts, not replacing any gaskets or hoses, a lot of scrounging. Knowing what I know now, I could have done it much cheaper.

we have a "u pull it" yard her ethat has set prices for every part, whether the part comes from a shitty honda or a 95' 5 series bmw .. same prices.

i pretty much raped every bimmer in the two seperate yards and found every part i need. all the small stuff ill be buying new along every part of the tranny minus the flywheel.

haha, for sure. Most gaskets and hoses don't really cost much, but if you want to put in a new clutch kit that's around $200, guibo $40 (for non knockoff brand), waterpump $60+ (80 for a genuine BMW), etc.

i already have a brand new flex disc that i bought a couple months ago but i never put it on my car. most hoses i can get free unless i want stainless. hoora for mothers with autozone business accounts. im not changing the water pump or any of the engine parts besides the ignition coils till like 2 months after the swap. im getting the bavarian auto performance ignition coils, i had to get 2 new ones no matter what so i might as well get the performance ones right off the bat.

^^ damn its $375 for a complete engine package at my u-pull-it $95 is crazy! i spent:

$2650 s52/tranny/mounts with all electronics key ecu ews, driveshaft, even the steering column part!
                    $280 frate
                    $200-300 @ junkyard, $12 oil pan, m50 mani ($18 ) acc-cable, boosters (recent $75 in one too) & $68 3.25lsd
$200 at most on ebay parts like engine mounts, filter...that's about all i recall so like $120)
                    -500 m20/g260 sale
                    -180 (280 - shipping) 4.10lsd
                    -120 2.93 lsd
$600 at most in pelican parts (i calc ~ $380 in bushings, gaskets and misc parts)
$200 in misc like TR module for ews, oils, tooling, labor materials etc etc etc
$600 exhaust (hella engineered sexyness! w/ $220 borla muffler)
$0 O2 simulators (wait what?! stick around o2sim.c will have new product soon)

est time input: 120hours of hard sweat & blood labor
40-50hours in research (yeah i know, obdii info is not easy to come across, i've never wired a car before)

so near-sub $4000 doing/perfecting everything myself for a fully functional OBDII swap(2 track days within 2.5 weeks of completion hehe fun!) not bad imo. this is about as low as it can go
                    No more e30s for me.

                      lol, fuck these threads.

if you dont care about power, or servicing your e30 in the near future after doing a motor swap, it can be done on the cheap. if you want power, and a maintanance free operation for at least a few years after doing the swap, plan on spending about $8-12K on your e30 all said and done.

8 to 12 k could build you almost an entire new motor. anyone doing a motorswap is doing it for more power. and nobody has to spend anyehere near 8 to 12 k.

I've spent so much that it makes me sad. I'm a sad little man.

If I include the cost of the car and the cost of the parts car...

                          carry the two...

                          divide by six...

                          move the decimal point...

                          nought from nought...

I could have bought my dream car, a nice yellow M Coupe!

                            I am over the 12k mark. :(

But I went with all kinds of new and overbuilt bits. Pretty much a lil tank. lol

if you have a solid motor and did a good job on the swap/electronics there's no reason to have future problems other than the basic maintenance any car requires.... this is a track car and as such maintenance free is something from another dimension. I check/touch up my car after every event, even if there's nothing wrong. i should add to my post sachs clutch light flywheel and a new starter forgot those 8)
                              No more e30s for me.

                                i spent....
                                $1200> '89 325i
                                $2550> '98 s52, w/ m3 tranny, ecu+wiring harness (only 56k miles!)
$900> full custom exhaust from header back
                                roughly $1000> 16" electric fan, turner chip, 24#injectors, 3.5 hfm, obd1 conversion, e34 oilpan, 320 booster, mounts, misc. hoses+ bolts+ gaskets+ fluids
$700> new clutch and aluminum flywheel
                                $90> z3 shifter kit w/ delrin bushing
$700> springs, sways, shocks, control arms
                                roughly $6.2k-650 for m20 w/ tranny and exhaust= roughly $5,550

took 1.5 years to complete, b/c of $ situation and other bullshit. I lost a friend over this, dealt with this on top of school and work, so add about $2k in stress and headache and self done labor(minus the wiring). all said and done, i have a pretty fuckin dope e30 that embarasses cars daily and is a blast to drive! i did this knowing that i couldn't even afford a clean e36 m3 for the price, while building a car that can handle well and is way faster then a heavy e36. next is either a mild ball bearing turbo setup and big brakes!!!
