Need help ASAP, E36 M3 getting ready to be crushed

I am reposting this in this section. I did not realize there was an S52 section and I genuinely need help and I just don't have enough time befire they crush it to research. Thanks.

Need advice ASAP- "possibly" saved 97 s52 from crusher
I had my eye on a wrecked M3 for the past 2 years. I knew where it was, I told them I wanted it, but I had no place to store the car to take the parts off. I finally solved that problem and went to make an offer on the car. I literally was two hours late. In the past two hours they pulled the car out and decided to rip the motor and rack and pinion out and put them in a pile. The car is getting ready to be crushed, but they have put it off to the side for me.
The motor is from a wrecked car and the salvage yard says it turns over by hand, but had no way to start it without the chipped keys. So, they ripped the motor out, likely damaging the intake. He promises the block is fine. He is pulling it out of the pile tomorrow for me and has offered to sell it for $125.
What else do I need off of this car? I will not have a lot of time. Do I need any harnesses, computer, etc...... I wish I had time to research, but I simply don't. If I had come 2 hours earlier, he would have just set the whole car aside for me. Please give me some advice here. I want to drop this in my 87 325is. The motor is from an automatic with unknown mileage. I will post a picture of the motor now. Here is what the car looked like when I last saw it about 6 months ago. See in the link below.

Get the engine, computer, engine arms and harness. That's all I can think of that you NEED from the S52. If you can, grab the MAF, steering rack, diff and any goodies like a shift knob. The steering rack is a nice swap and the diff is worth a few hundred on Craisglist/eBay/forums.

    Good luck, work fast

The salvage guy cut the harness. But, I imagine I could solder if needed. Thoughts on that. Will the rear be used in the swap or just sold for dough? If you look in the pictures in the last link, I believe the engine arms were snapped in the wreck. Do i see that correctly? I thank you for your help. I went there right before leaving for out of town, so they promised to keep the car until I get back. I need to get my plan straight so I can get what I need and get out of their way.

Not worth it if it's cut. You'll spend to much time trying to fix it and for the ~$120 a harness goes for, it isn't worth your time.

Real will just be sold for dough.

Didn't look at the pictures but if they are snapped, engine arms are cheap enough.

Not to turn this into a sales pitch, but PM me if you need swap parts. I've got boosters/arms/etc. sitting around.

Are you planning on keeping it OBD2 or swapping to OBD1?

I believe I'm going to OBD 1. When I was more informed on this, I think I decided on looking for OBD 1. So, my car won't benefit from the e36 rear? What about exhaust? I will keep you in mind for parts as I get closer. Thanks.

Any reason you're going OBD1? There's nothing good there. If you're worried about finding a harness, any M52/S52 harness will work.

Easier, cheaper, easy diagnostics, reflashable, and better overall ECU are all benefits. Lots of places offer EWS/emissions deletes if you can't be bothered to do it yourself.

Yeah there are a lot of threads still floating around from 10 years ago that talk about swapping to OBD1, but we've come a long way in the past 10 years.

Your car can't fit the E36 diff, but the guts could go in an E30 diff if you really want to work for a 3.23/3.38. Worth ~$300 to sell to some non-M E36 kid otherwise.

Exhaust doesn't really fit. People have done it, but I wouldn't.

Ok, sounds like I have a lot of catching up to do. I thought there was better performance in the OBD1 conversion. I have been eyeballing this motor for a while. I had no place for it. But, I finallyhave room. So the swap is coming.

For some reason, I also thought the s50 was better. Clarification?

Eh it's kind of a wash between the two. The S50 is a 3 liter and the S52 is a 3.2 but after all the emissions they're about even. I like the S52 just because it's newer and they made more of them.

Get as much as you can but the longblock itself is the only thing that's really unique the the M3. The rest of the parts you need are standard E36, readily available, and cheap.

They cracked a cover on the front of the engine, see pics and they also hacked out the power steering pump and rack. They cut the plumbing hose for the rack and one pipe on the pump. Are these worth the $100 the salvage yard is asking?
