The M50 cam trays need the M50 hydraulic lifters. As was already mentioned, the M50 has 35mm lifters and the S50/M52/S52 have 33mm lifters. You can use the M50 trays and M50 lifters with S50 cams if you want. No, the S50 cam trays are NOT the same as the M50 cam trays. They are, according to RealOEM.com, a different part number.

You can use the S50 trays with the M50 cams if you wanted to as well, but you would have to use the S50 lifters too.

Do a Google search on S50 springs/retainers failing and then thank your lucky stars you haven't had a retainer failure yet.

Oh, and by the way, I have a full set of S52 springs/seats/retainers (fully matched set) for cheap if you want 'em. They've been sitting around collecting dust for 4-5 years now and I'll never use them.

The heads are virtually identical so you are good there. The main differences between an M50 and S50 are the cams, springs, and the displacement. Keep in mind that there are two different diameter lifters in the 24V motors.

With that said, you can mix and match at will basically. Just keep in mind that the dual S50 springs are meant for more revs than the single M50 springs.

I have a full set of S50 cams, springs, trays, and lifters that I will most likely get rid of this winter if you can wait that long.

Well, it makes sense at first but most S motors are high mileage and sooner or later need a overhaul right? Whats the usual miles out of it if not over revd 250k? beaten on?

    Did my research thanks

I really think you should have just bought a S50 because theres a lot you don't seem to know. I know we all have to start some where but it seems you might have bitten off a little more than you can chew. Also yes you can use M50 tray with S50 cams. In fact I believe the S50 and M50 trays are the same part number).
It was a good deal. I just wanted m50 cams to get it running then later get aftermarket cams, I havent driven the car in a while.
Guess ill stick to PN for advice. Thanks.
