      The part numbers for the connectors are available on realoem.

      The engine side connector is 04 PLUG HOUSING 20POL 1 12521707283;

      and the male pins are 05 CIRCULAR CONNECTOR D=2,5/0,5-1,5 ? 61131376191

      You can push the female pins out of the E36 connector using a punch. Once the pins are out, undo the crimp around the rubber seal plug and remove them so you can use them on your new connector.

      Its not that hard to do, but it is time consuming.

      Treehouse Racing's adapter may seem expensive, but when you factor in the time to build the connector along with getting something that you know is plug and play, the price is not bad at all.

        If I were to do a swap, I'd doubtless buy their adapter. To me the wiring, etc seems like the only daunting part of this deal, and having the plug and play part and the ability to phone these guys for info would be well worth the $$$.

        And again, folks, not smart to shit on one of the few places that cares to develop parts for these old beat-boxes.

          I was totally ready to order one... then I found out that we have all the tools here. :ohsnap:

          My intention when I started this thread wasn't to bash treehouse... I'm just saying there's another way.

            $400 is chicken scratch when you can put an m50 in your car, and have it run, without having to put an ounce of thought into the wiring.

              I got that from your comments Matt. You have access to what 95% of people dont for tools. It was others who made the foolish comments.

                        Chicken scratch is relative. $400 to me is a lot. I don't consider the treehouse adapter a bargain, but maybe that because I'm an ee and wiring is easy for me as long there's a schematic to follow. I think there's enough wiring info posted on these forums and enough schematics readily available that making an adapter should be relatively painless for most people with a little electrical knowledge. And, there are people on these forums willing to help people who are having problems. Of course there is the time factor as making an adapter takes time to research and to make, and maybe that makes up for the $400 cost to many people. But for people who are working with tight budgets and also enjoy doing some dirty work themselves, should benefit from savings 400 bucks and doing this themselves. Maybe if another vendor comes out with the same products and offers good customer service, treehouse could see some competition and lower their price. Personally I think asking 400 is a slight disservice to those of us who struggle to come up with the mega bucks required to do these projects. The r&d that treehouse has in the connector (which probably accounts for a large percentage of the product cost) is losing it’s value as more wiring diagrams and conversion wiring details become public knowledge.

                          Wow matt....u have read my mind!

                          I was thinking how neat the job would look with an E30 M3/ 4 cylind wire harness fixings (the plastic bit on the firewall on E30 M3s ull see all the time!) and yeah began to think of reconfiguring the existing c101 to an E36 female plug to mate to the standard E36 engine plug....ur a champ! i want to see pics mate!
                          It would look factory and soooo tidy. Its a shame the tools cost sooo much..
                          but its worth further investigation...
                          You could then use the factory mounting point on the firewall too...nice i want to see pics matt please!!!

                          As for the TreeHouse bashing...guys try living out of the US when the xchange rates arent in ur favour!!!! lol i like treehouse they are E30M/S50 friends! that plug is gold to us!....but this thread was more about true OEM fitment.

                          Matt did i mention i wanted to see pics!!!

                            Here's a couple pics of mine. I was really tempted to make a nice short harness and either cut the s50 or e30 connector, but I've decided that I might go back to the s14 engine and sell the s50 after awhile, so I made an in-line connector. One end fits nicely into the stock location and the other fits nicely into the diagnostic holder. Looks pretty stock except for the relocated diagnostic connector.

                                I did the same as Rev Engineer, but the best way to do it is as the thread starter suggested-- although I would modify the e30 side as to keep the engine harness intact.

                                I'm going to get the parts to do this eventually, too.
