Cindarella'ing your dirty engine bay and tranny makes me tired. Thanx for the new coil btw, very nice, 10hp to the wheels.

Too anyone else interested in a swap... it looks like a lot of work, and it is, but it's really a blast. Grab a buddy or 2, some pizza, preferred beverages and some afternoons to kill and go for it. (Plus you get practice for your own swap )

^ True that... as one m50 swap takes place on one side of the coast.... the SE guys are joining forces on another m50 swap. :D

Awesome dude, I was gonna call you yesterday or today to see how you were doing but didnt get a chance when I ran into some serous problems with my own project. My megasquirt shorted out on my on my FINAL test, after everything was perfectly wired up, it passed all tests including the standard final one, but failed after I made an aux circuit to control the m20's 3 wire pulse width modulated idle air control valve. I think I might have a clue what happened, because I narrowed it down to two transistors that greatly increased the +12v to ground resistance. I thought they just broke a circuit that was shorting out but i realized something just recently from working all day on it. My idea MIGHT be right, but then again I could be completely wrong again (because what I'm thinking shorted out has some really significant insulation). We'll see but I'm gonna sleep on that tonight thinking good about it.

Working on that at all tomorrow? Ive got some little stuff to do, but I'd like to come down some time and check out the progress.

M50 cab? what? ;) lol... I kinda wanted to keep it an m20 but when I finish my 2002, I just might need a project.

load leveler?? load leveler?? no way. it is near impossible to get the rear engine hook off when the motor is in the car. its also near impossible to rotate the engine with two pickup points. it took me over an hour with that stupid load leveler. then it took another 10 minutes just to pull the hook off. ive tried it a couple of ways. now its down to a 15min drop it.

You'll be in a world of shit when that engine lifting bracket brakes and your engine falls on your grille and fender.

Use a leveler. Attach it to the rear exhaust manifold and the lifting bracket.

We will be using a load leveler to put the m50 in. We can drop the motor in flat because we wont have the tranny attached, but under the car on a jack.

I have it down to where I can get an m50 in using a come-along in 20 minutes by myself with the tranny on the engine.

You'll want to take the intake manifold off if you have not done so already. It makes things sooo much easier in the end. Take a chain and hook it to the rear exhaust & the loop near the starter, attach that to one side of the leveler, and attach the other to the loop by yer vanos unit. I'd personally install it with the tranny on- unless you've modified your tranny tunnel/firewall, you'll probably have a hell of a time getting your tools to the bolts if you try to install it after the fact.

The key to an easy install is to remove the intake manifold though... It'll only take you 10 minutes tops and save you a couple of hours trying to fit your hands underneath it to route hoses, remove hoist clamps etc.

                      Good luck

skip that. my last one was installed in less than 15. keep the trans installed. keep the intake manifold installed. keep all the accessorie installed. keep the A/C mounting bracket OFF.

now, hang the engine off the front lift point and exhaust manifolds.

position the engine nearly straight up and down in the engine bay. put a large jack under the trans ouput flange. as you lower the engine, slide the jack towards the back of the car....leveling the assembly. about half way through, you will need to use only the front lift point in conjunction with the jack supporting the trans. like butter.

                        cheers, jason

i have done swaps just like this with m20 and m42. worked very well for me.

dont try and attach the tranny with the engine in the bay, as mentioned above, its a fat PITA to get at the top bolts and torque them down...
