Aaron - I'll see whats up at 5ish tomorrow, either thru you or Clay.
I forgot to mention, then you loosen it after you put it to 100 something, then put it to 80 something. I don't know why, the Bentley says that's the way to do it.

UPDATE: DROPPIN' M50 LIKE IT HOT

Yea, so we had the m50 ready to go besides flywheel, clutch, and tranny mounting. I'm using my m20 flywheel and I was planning on shaving it so I clears but I spaced on getting it done. So instead I shaved the pan to spec.

I then put on the flywheel and clutch. We dropped the motor to the ground to mount the tranny.

At first we tried dropping in the motor with it connected to the front bracket and the exhaust. That didn't work because the motor wasn't at the correct level. Here is Justin showing just how pissed we all were that it didn't work that way.

We took it off the exhaust and it was going in way smoother. Anyone who is wondering what the best way to drop a m50 in. It is to dangle the motor and tranny by the single front bracket and use a floor jack to lift the tranny once it is in the bay.(as suggested by Jason89i earlier in the thread.)

So we finished at about 11:45pm. This was taken this morning.

It's basically there. Just need to attach the linkage and connect the output shaft to the drive shaft.

??? QUESTION: I have the motor on 535i mounts, and the tranny is in position on a floor jack. The output shaft is about 1" short of being able to put the nuts on the three bolts.

The motor is basically up against the firewall and mounted to the motor mounts. What is going on? Why is the tranny short 1 inch? I'm going out late tonight but I'm going to go at it tomorrow so hopfully someone will have replied by then.

      Thanks for lookin'

You probably need to expand the sliding joint in the middle of your driveshaft.

Yep. Loosen that big flimsy nut there and pull the sections apart. Be careful not to pull them all the way apart.

that's what I think I was trying to say over the phone... isn't it splined and slideable? DO IT. Don't fire that motor without me or you're a butthole.

Kudos on getting all the rest of the rat's nest sorted today.

How did you hook up the heater hoses? Just reach down there with the intake manifold on, or did you install the intake manifold afterwards? I can't figure out how I'm going to do that...

I hooked them up right before the motor was seated on the mounts.

Yeah, I guess I'll try that. Thanks.

Did you get your driveshaft hooked up?

Eventually I want to stroke it, m3 cams, headers, and chip.

Today was the moment of truth. I filled it with all the fluids and it didn't spring one leak.

I finished hooking up all the loose ends, I got the driveshaft hooked up and all. But when I turned the key, the starter sounded like it didn't "pop out." It sounded like it was just spinning. I thought Clay had got be the wrong starter, but he says that he got the right one. The starter is flush up against the tranny and the flywheel is m20 as well.

I'm pretty sure Worldpac either sent us the wrong starter, or we got a faulty unit. In either case, I have to remove the intake manifold to get to the starter and take it out to see what is going on. Hopfully I can just get a new one and fire it up.
