    Coil pack upgrades?

    Hey Everyone,

I am curious if it is worth looking into, and what my options are, for coil packs for my m52b28. Wouldn't be looking into this normally, but I am building a turbo system for the car and some of the things I have been hearing is that the stock coils tend to fail either due to heat, need more energy, etc.

Anyone have any feedback regarding this?

The bolt- on ones aren't too bad.
The later m54 push- in cigarette style have given me more trouble.
I would NOT 'upgrade' to them...

Either way, I just carry a known- good spare- the obd2 ecu usually diagnoses them pretty accurately.
And I try to avoid the 3rd party coils...

    all I know,

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

The stock coils can handle quite big powers in turbo setup. Just don't use old crusty ones or no-name replacememt ones. New bremi/bosch coils from ebay and you are good to go. I'm currently making 500whp on stock coils. New bremi ones from ebay.

perfect. I have seen so many pictures of engine bays of guys running turbos and seen everything from LS coils to things I couldn't identify, so I was thinking there had to be a reason.

Stock coils are more than adequate. I've even done builds making over 450whp on the stock m20 ignition system.

As mentioned, stay away from aftermarket stuff, they tend to be less reliable and throw less fire than stock stuff (this goes for all the makes I have worked on over the years).
