    e34 525i Oil Pan

well i lucked out and found a e34 525i oil pan, i started to take it out, but the 2 back tranny bolts got stripped. i got some nut extractors so hopefully that works.

question is am i going to be able to take off the oil pan once it is all unbolted? is the oil pump going to to in the way? im trying to avoid taking the engine out.

also, what all to i need? i know i need the pan, dip stick, but do i need the pump? anything else? need some input. maybe i can get this thing tomorrow
    NEED SOME VINYL STICKERS???

You need the oil pickup tube which is attached to the pump with 2x M6 bolts. You don't need the pump.

you need 2 #8s. Also, when putting it all back together, you will need to make your own dip stick tube bracket. i will have to take a picture of mine.

What is the issue with the e36 dipstick?

Most e36 owners are dipsticks. Ask TJ. :)

I should have seen that coming!

I'll clarify with "why don't the e36 dipstick tubes work in with the e34 oil pan"?

Its bent differently from the e34 because the sump on the e36 is in the back, and the e34s is in the front. you might be able to use it, but its easier to go with what works.

Also - I believe the dip-sticks are different lengths. So to get an accurate reading from it you need to have all E34 stuff.

                      both of you get F's....

E36 dipstick has a wider diameter at the o-ring so naturally it won't fit on the e34 pan.
                      No more e30s for me.

so all you have to do is drill it?

                        or get an e34 dipstick.

I was wondering because I have the e34 pan sitting next to the motor and the dip tube holes are not that far apart in their final position... maybe 5". I'll try to measure for differences in pan depth and hole diameter when I get the chance.

i was using an e36 dipstick in my e34pan worked great, i prefer it over the e34 pan. I had two side by side and tried both of them out and sold the e34 dipstick

^^ maybe e36 pans differ from one another. my s52 pan/dipstick had wider diameter holes than the e34 pan/stick, there's no way that would've worked for me. + there's a second pan vent tube coming from the s52 stick that goes to an air pump and that further protrudes with the e34 pan. maybe there are differences. you also have to consider wether the stick measures correctly.
                              No more e30s for me.
