I would have been happy with Deves. They are a good quality part. I hope they warrant double the cost.

I figured that you can't go wrong with OEM, although I am kicking myself for not getting a set of total seal rings, I could have had them for around the same price as the Deves rings.

        Eh, you sure about that?

To use Total seal rings your pistons must be made to use them. People over at bf.c have been having problems using them and going to machine shops who don't understand what needs to be done to use them.

A friend of mine ran them on his motor and didn't know about this and had blow-by and oil consumption.

I also had a friend who had problems with total seals... something about not having the right finish on the bore.

The whole idea behind them is sketchy IMO.

I'm planning on using loctite for the oil pan nut. Everything else is done. The whole top end timing, VANOS install, timing cover and valve cover install is done. It was easy as pie and I did the VANOS unit timing like 5 times just to be anally sure that the timing was set correctly. It's easy as pie if you go slowly, but I had to be sure. I didn't have loctite already and I forgot to buy some today, but I'll get some tomorrow and the motor will be finished.

Look to get a picture update and maybe a video of the car starting for the first time in the next two or three days. I have work and I work nights, but I may get up early and/or stay up late to finish it a few days in a row to get it done. I'm getting pretty excited.

Sweet! Yeah the VANOS timing isn't that bad once you go through the motions a few times. It's a beautiful sound to crank over an engine that you screwed around with timing, and it runs and starts great. Of course in your case, you rebuilt the entire engine!

The motor is in the car!!! Pictures soon. There is still one snag. The clutch slave that I bought turned out to be defective. The pedal goes straight to the floor. Lame. It's sexy. Shoehorning it in there was a huge PITA. I would not enjoy having to do it again.

Here are some pics now that I've gotten my hands on a camera. The front end of my car is still off, mainly because I didn't want to risk anything getting damaged. I was right, as the a/c condenser was way in the way of alot of shit and I had to pull it back to clear the motor, even with the tensioner for the a/c compressor, the a/c compressor and the power steering pump off.

Let me tell you, getting this in was a real B*TCH! Everything was in the way and we really had to manhandle the assembly to get it on. I still have alot of things to do, including getting the charcoal canister back in place, getting the brake reservoir mounted permanently, putting accessories and belts on, fuel lines, not to mention that faulty clutch slave. I'll probably get alot of that done tonight.

Here's the first pic, sorry for my finger, but whatever.

Here she is from the front. We still have a bit to do, but it's mere hours of work.

As you can see here, the intake I got is a little on the big side. I'm going to be making a silicone intakes.com boot for the car that will help the clearance as well as trimming my samco hose to fit more like stock.

                            Moar.

As you can see here, the shifter is installed and the trans is hooked up and mounted. The guibo has one bolt we have to get at still, but since we moved the car, I think it should be more accessable. It certainly can't get any less accessable.

Oh and note the two tone doors, this is going to look nice once I steam clean the carpeting and detail the interior.

More dirty interior and cool ///M stuff. I swear it won't be this dirty for long.

Headers anyone? Huh? Ohhhhh yeah baby.

I like it from this angle. It's nice looking.

Treehouse racing who? Huh? Oh right, that looks stock. What's up?

Yeah baby. Later this week she runs, then I'll have to wash her and love her all up and make a sexy little burnout video. I mean I really should get new tires anyway. Something not in a 195 would be nice.

What trans did you use? Does the m50 head have anything done to it? I've been thinking about building an m50 other than buying an s50/52, but its downtime and sometimes not as cost effective. How much have you spent on it?

oh, btw i have those headers too.
