different people have different tolerances to noise. It even depends on whether i am tired or not. In the morning i almost don't mind the noises, but after work, when i am tired - it's infuriating.

for a burns pipe go to Burns Stainless website. It will be around $200-250. see e30m3performance.com for Gustav's e30m3 fancy exhaust with this y pipe.

325Projectz, did you happen to have a stock flywheel beforehand? I am interested in the feedback of those who had stock and ltw fly and can comment on difference in noises (not just the idle chatter - it's the least of my concerns).

sorry for OT: also, i just discovered that i am supposed to barely torque the tranny support brace to the body (16lb/ft). I though it's just the nuts on the mounts that had to be barely torqued.
I torqued the shit out of my brace-to-body bolts as i figured they should be firmly attached (ones that go into the long slots) - is this wrong? I'll loosen them up a bit tonight and will comment if this will make things better

Wait, so you had a header that dumped underneath the car, or did you run a pipe to the rear end?

I torqued the brace bolts down decently, but the four nuts holding the trans nuts are only lightly snug.

jesus! $250? haha, i'll bust out the tig and make one. fuck that.

only flywheel i had with the s50 was the uuc. no back to back comparsion, in the e30 chassis. but e30 m3 s50 (uuc) to e36 m3 (95 & 99, stock) the only difference in noise is the chatter at idle.

someone else around here HAS to have a uuc flywheel w/ m5 clutch... what do you think about the chatter? input! :hitler: now, you sorry son of a bitch!

Well, the Burns stuff looks PERFECT.

I'll settle for a Magnaflow y-pipe for $40, even though it's made from aluminized steel.

I got an E36 M3 Fidanza 11lb fly and sachs performance clutch, I am going to try the UUC redline oil mix fix when I get back from Dallas.

I have a JB Racing aluminum flywheel from Bimmerworld. I installed the e34 m5 sprung hub clutch backwards with an s52 pressure plate (it is different from the s50 pressure plate). Absolutely no flywheel rattle at idle, it's dead quiet. James Clay offered me that suggestion of the reversal clutch install and it has worked perfectly thus far. 10k miles and going strong!

can you do me a favour? when you are on the highway (not going too fast) go into 5th and whil the RPMs are at around 2.5krpm, WOT the accel - let me know if you get any loud noises. Also do you have urethane bushings?

also you got stock e36 exhaust right? I heard that flywheel has two main purposes: 1. make the driving experience smooth (add inertia to the driveline) and 2. even out the exhaust pulses.

                  Thanks

well I drive it every day for the past year so I can tell you the answers right now. In 5th at 2500RPM there is very minimal vibration - it is mostly exhaust resonance and some intake noise that you hear and feel in my car at those RPMs. As the RPMs climb it smooths out very quickly, by 3K RPM you can feel nothing but smooth s50 power.

My bushings are all urethane in the rear and all rubber in the front. Offset m3 front control arm bushings too, not those Treehouse ones. All swaybar mounts are urethane. e28 green engine mounts on both sides with no shims. e21 trans mounts with aluminum cups. e34 m5 guibo and urethane rear diff mount, urethane trailing arm and subframe bushings.

I have OBDI cats and e36 muffler. OBDII headers and custom pipes through the subframe only.

                    hope that helps.

                      ^^ thanks that does help

maybe i shouldn't fault the fly for everything. Maybe it's really my exhaust, i don't know. We'll see i guess after i put the metallic cat on and another full size magnaflow in the middle.
I listened out some more and i think the most annoying sound is a whine kind of noise (i think coming out from exhaust) i wish i could get rid of it - maybe i should try some of those removable silencers? or just rig up an electric exhaust cutout and route the silent part through something restrictive.
I guess "free flowing" and "civily quiet" are self exclusive

You queers have s50 e30s and are complaining about a little noise and lack of smoothness? add a ton of fat mat, a ton of weight, and some boges if you really want to cry about it. e36's are crap.
totally agree ...e36s are SLOW, HEAVY, handle like shit compared to an e30, worse on gas compared to our swaps, ugly (personal preference= e30)...and if u said men are talking yet u guys can't handle some noise, then why would u do this swap in the first place? u r not a real man if u bitch and whine about little problems, that means ur on the brink of senior citizenship...my exhaust covers up just about all noises, being 3" and barely restricted...play ur music a little louder to get rid of noise for god's sake! o ya and as far as smooth acceleration, my car is just as smooth as my friends '99 m3...except his is slow and mine is FAST! :p

^^ thanks for the "ignorant comment" r3v fund contribution

btw, real men don't ignore problems and don't mask them by "turning up the music", they solve them.

now go drive your fast shitbox with an unrestrictive 3" exhaust (ever heard of exhaust gas velocity preservation and turbulence?).

oh and e36 has a better rear suspension - it's a fact. While e30s own at autox and small tracks, e36 are better for speedier bigger tracks.

The E36 gets better fuel economy. Don't ask me how or why, but unless you're getting better than 27 mpg highway, you're not getting better fuel economy than an E36 M3. Purely highway I can get over 30 mpg in my 328is.

Yes, he has heard of those things.

e30s do not handle better than e36s. They are lighter... that's it. e30 steering is dog slow, they have TERRIBLE rear suspensions, I could go on. :hitler:
