    e30 m3 oil level guage ?

Does it even have one ? I am looking at my old motor and really am second guessing myself on this .I see no wiring ? and can not remember ever having the oil level light on ! 1989 m3 fyi

The E34 oil pan has an oil level sender that can be wired into the overhead check panel.

Does a 'vert have the check panel?

Yes I have a check panel and I have 100 % m3 wiring body harnes in my car . My ? is I do not think that the m3 came with a level senso . there is a blank on my pan with no wires maybe this is my issue !

The level sender needed for the swap is specific for the E34 oil pan. If you just have a blank on the bottom of the oil pan, then you don't have the sending unit. The sending unit has a 3-pin connector.

If it's something that your interested in having, it's a pretty straight forward install.

does your check panel have an "engine oil" light?

the m3's should have a oil level light. the wiring is different between the 87's and 89's, but they both go through the c101 connector.

AFAIK, I was told that since you are on a THR WHAD, all you need is the sender for the pan, to wire a connector to the pigtails in the harness, then the body side of the C101 will take the signal to the check panel, but you need a non-M check panel to add the LED for the level, since that's not on a early build (like mine) factory check panel.

I'm doing the same thing, and that's what I came up with, but I'm not that far into my swap so I'm not sure if that's 100% correct yet.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

My panel has the led it's on nice and bright only one left . I recall when I drove the donor car into the shop is read engine oil level low so I thiink I have a bad sensor .

So what's the question then? I thought you didn't have a sensor in your pan.

Also, the sensor is just a float, so pull it yourself & clean it with brake cleaner, or soak it in kerosene or diesel for a day - once you can make it "rattle" by shaking it like you're whacking off - your float/sensor is working.

Double check it with a ohm meter, it's a simple open/close loop.

Once you're good you can chase the problem elsewhere if it persists.

My s52 has a sensor since the e34 pan included one . My s14 has no sensor in it nor did it ever . I have the check panel with an oil level led that is now lit . The sesor is not a float as per my conversation with THR it works on a heating element and the cooling of the level is what determines the level in the pan . After checking and probing my wiring is aces !

Bizzare. I had mine out and I did what I told you, I had a full open/close loop and I could see the float through the caging.

Not saying you're not right - just that was my experience. I should check the wiring charts for more info, never did that. I'm sure it will show on a diagram.

Thanks for setting me straight - I'm probably wrong.

So what exactly was the problem & what was the solution?

It would benefit us if we all did a better job of posting our solutions after a problem arises, imagine how great when we search key words that not only would we find the problem like others had, but maybe what a solution is too.
