    sourcing a new c101 connector

I plan to put an e30 plug on to the e36 harness, and I want to buy a new connector and pins and assemble it rather than make an adapter.

In this thread http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...+wiring&page=3 in the first post on that page there is mention of finding the part number for the connectors at realoem. But I could not find them in any of teh diagrams.

So can someone point me in the right direction?

And how many people have gone this route instead of making an adapter?

I'd like to know too...as I'd like to do the same thing you're planning. I've found finding the pn's really hard.

Is this what you are looking for?

I can't remember if that is the male or female side.

Look on your chassis harness. If you have a 283 order a 284 and vice versa.

I'm confused by this. Are you saying either the 283 is female and 284 is male or the 283 is male and 284 is female? And when I look on my harness, will the PN be printed right on it?

And another question here: What is to stop me from taking the pins out of the plug on my current (m20) engine harness and getting new pins and attaching it to the m52 harness? Will I damage the plug when I take the pins out?

Well I googled the part number given and the first result was this thread:

            Good info in there too.

              Yes and yes.

Nothing. Just unlock the connector, push all the pins out, and push them back in and lock it again.

This is great. Threads that actually go somewhere on r3v.

I need to order the pins for my connector, search brought me to this old thread, but item 5 in the realoem list shows 3 different versions of the pin.

Which one is it? .5-1.5mm, 1-2.5mm or 2.5 to 4 mm??

Also, what is the best place to order?

All three sizes of pins are needed. The sizes refer to the diameter of the wire insulation that the pin's strain relief can handle.

Sadly, I am missing the chart that I made that had all of the wire gauges listed for the C101. From what I remember, the ignition switch (pin 18 ) and DME power (pin 7) will require the 2.5 to 4mm pins (PN 195). I forgot the gauges of the other pins... there is one pin that requires the 1 to 2.5 mm insulation pin I think, but I don't remember for certain. The bulk of the contacts will be the small 0.5 to 1.5 mm pins.

It's probably easiest to order the pins from a dealer. They should be around a dollar apiece. Newark can get them for you for $.245/ but it is through Farnell, so they'll tack on a $20 handling fee. They used to have AMP 929967-1 in stock but I guess their stateside supply dried up.

just came back from the stealers. they wanted $4.xx for the 191 and 193 and $6.xx for the 195, each! Makes the $20 handling fee from Newark worth it now. anywhere else we can get these? anybody find it at the stealers for cheaper?
