Getrag 240 m52 swap driveshaft and tranny questions

W/ all the searching I've been doin between classes I haven't found a TOB, that's my problem right now, and I've got the m50 dual mass in the garage. I'd much rather run the m20 tho but can't find the 323 TOB.as long as its the 228mm clutch you should be fine. But why not run the e30 325 single mass flywheel and clutch? Its a heck of a lot lighter than the dual mass and is the same size. I am running a m20 single mass flywheel, IE/Clutchnets sprung 6 puck 228mm clutch, euro 323 TOB, and the getrag 240. It r3vs and grabs very nice. You can even lighten the m20 flywheels a good amt if you want too.
And the stock m42 driveshaft, carrier and shift linkage are too long w/ the i6.
Any help would be much appreciated.Leave a comment:

Nevermind, I just noticed the e36 tranny mounts, now I get it.one last question... So I can run an m50 dual mass w/ m50 clutch and m42 throwout bearing inside the 240's bellhousing, and can also run the stock mounts, so why would it be changed if all the same mounts are used. howcome I can't use the stock driveshaft and linkage if the mounts are the same, or am I missing something here that has to be modified?
But the m/s50 clutch will fit inside w/ the m50 flywheel?Leave a comment:

it will work but it will sit at an angle just like the 325i's 260.Leave a comment:

So stock tranny mount works, awesome that saves a ton of work with this setup.

^^^^ Yes, the 3.73 lsd with the 240 is the bomb. I ran this combo as well

240 gearing is very similar to 260. 1-3rd gear on the 240 are a tiny bit taller than 260's, maybe going 2-3 mph higher in each gear. It is actually a pretty good option paired with an M/S50/52 + 3.73 final drive.
If I went 6-cyl on my 318is I'd keep my 240 and keep the 4.10LSD too...lots of fun!Leave a comment:

interesting....what is the gearing like on the 240 compared to the 260? if i ran the 240 tranny with my big case 3.73 diff would i get a higher top speed?Leave a comment:

yes thats what I'm running. The m42 and m50 blocks are VERY similar in design. The early 240 is the same internally as the late but it has a diff bell housing and won't fit.Leave a comment:

Lemme see I can answer all your "Using The Getrag 240" questions.
-YES the Getrag 240 (from 90-91 318i/iS WILL bolt up to all M/S/50/52 blocks perfectly and will even line up correctly with the oil pan holes. Im not sure about the transmission form the early 318's.
-Use the pilot bearing that was ment for your motor.
-People have used the m20 325i shift linkage along with it, it didnt work for me so I shortened the 318 carrier and selector rod to work.
-Use the E36 325i 5spd driveshaft with a e30 center bearing for best fitment. The E30 325i 5spd driveshaft can be used too.
-If you're going to be running a single mass m20 flywheel use the euro 323i throw out bearing. Otherwise the stock one from the 240 should work with the m50 dualmass flywheels.
-For transmission support use the stock unmodified e30 transmisson brace with the stock 240/e36 transmisson mounts.
I think that should answer your questions.Leave a comment:

Are you sure getrag 240 will bolt to m50? I gotta look in the e30 resto book, I think it mentioned there is more than one type of 240, different bell housing maybe...Leave a comment:
