Did you hook up pin 14 on the C101?

        Road speed signal.

Now, the TMS chip is supposed to remove the DME's reliance on pin 14 for the road speed signal. Which makes it very odd that your friend's car stops at 5K. Does it cut the fuel off, or does it just die?

it sounds like the car is being governed at 5k, it doesn't die

Um, I don't see that possible.

The only way that would be true is if it rev'd over 5k in neutral but not in gear. And you'd have much bigger problems, like a body clinging to the driveshaft preventing it from going anywhere.

It's got to be electrical. Sounds like a speed sensor problem.

Coding plug on the back of your cluster?

You never answered if the MPG guage works or not...

Why I ask is, if it doesn't, it means that the DME is not getting a speed signal from the cluster which is fed by the diff. speed sensor.

I had this problem with my car, only I was able to hit 6k usually. Changing speedo out solved my problem.

This is very wrong , atleast for BMW's . The speed sensor in the Diff will not effect the reving or top speed. I have done this on numerous chassis.
this does sound like a tuning issue though or maybe a wrong crank sensor/ reference sensor. Generally you can scan the Ecu to get an idea of where something is going wrong.

lol you are full of yourself. I know it at least effects the 24vers. I have heard of that from a ton of people who actually know what they are doing unlike most forum kiddies like yuorself. I even unplugged mine today to test it out and guess what?!?!?1 I was right...

It does affect it...I had that problem for a while till I figured it out. One of the people who pointed me to the problem was Stickley...you know, the BMW race engine builder.;)
