sorry guys thanks for all ur responses...i'll try the speed sensor, but the chip that i have has speed sensor delete. according to the tech from turner, the computer no longer relies upon the speed sensor's signal with the chip, it only serves the purpose for the speedometer now. did any of u guys get the chip with speed sensor delete?
my friend's car wont rev over 5 grand

No kiddie here and been around BMW's for the majority of my life. I have unplugged many speed sensors and have pegged 5th gear many of times, yes 155-160. I have done this in a 95 m3 and 96 m3 both i have previously owned also on e34s . If there is a chassis that this actually effects i would like someone to tell me which chassis....cause i can prove otherwise on E36 cars and E34s. As far as e30s with e36s swaps i am not positive but i did not mention that in my statement , i did not mention on swapped cars , but since thats what we are talking about it would be more relevant than non swapped cars. I know what i know from experience not heresay. Believe me when i get my new transmission in i will be testing this theory for swapped cars but i am pretty sure i had forgot to plug in the sensor after putting in the 3.25 and had no trouble finding redline we will see thoughComment

Well I believe the car should go all the way to redline whether or not the car has a road speed sensor hooked up, it's just that you won't be maximizing your performance if you don't. But the speed sensor delete in software should somehow eliminate that need, but I'm not sure HOW it goes about doing that.
Here's a post by Jason on the subject of speed signals.

I have never heard of this... but food for thought i guess
I did a search on yahoo and there was an article about a guy whos m40 was not revving past 5k and some how contributed it to damaged cams
"The symptoms of a worn cam is that the engines wont rev over 5 to 5,5k and misfires the first second or so after a gearshift during wide open throttle accelration. It can also be intermittent, the engine can occasionally rev normally to redline but most often not"Comment

"Look ass whole I asked for help on an issue we are having with my friend's car, not a reason for you to think you're all hard and flame on my thread. Get a fucking life bro, if you want to go talk shit, go do it around butt fuck Rochester. Come to LA and say some shit like that to my face, and I'll personally whoop you're sorry ass.
P.S: By the way I don't care about anyone's opinion of the grammar and syntax issues present in my posts. Again as I said before GET A FUCKING LIFE!"
Haha, great PM from the master mind of e30polak.
Have fun "ass whole"Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

i really hope it's not a worn cam, the motor only has 56k miles on it...but it could be it. we are goin to scan the car for codes and see what comes upI have never heard of this... but food for thought i guess

sigh......
this thread is a great example of the blind leading the blind. zero helpful information compounded by half truths and internet "hear-say". in all honesty, we need more than "car wont rev" to help.
take it to a trained bmw mechanic ...and be done with it.

Spoke to my BMW mechanic, he said try putting everything back to stock, and if symptoms persist, try borrowing another DME with the stock chipwe r almost finished with the swap...'98 obd1 s52 into '89 3251...413 red label ecu, 24# injectors, 3.5" hfm, tms chip for mods+ ews and speed sensor delete...car hasn't been able to rev past 5k on the tach since we've started it, with the tms chip or the stock chip...could it be that he has a 325 dme instead of and m3, or will that not make a difference with the tuning??? need answers asap, so please ring in if u have any insight...thanks
Were all the OBD1 sensor conversions correct for the S52? There could be something there too. I know the 3.5 HFM works great on 3.0 motors, do not know if it will work for 3.2 motors even with the OBD-1 conversion.Comment

Quick question. If you have a red label ECU why do you have a chip with EWS delete. Red labels are pre EWS.Comment

okay well then, while driving in any gear, as well as sitting at a stop in neutral...even with pedal to the metal, or the butterfly completely open on the throttle body, the engine wont rev past 5.5k rpms. it sounds like a governor is kicking in like on a lot of american cars. we are taking it to get scanned at the dealer, because we don't have that kind of equipment. thanks for everyone who put in their good word.sigh......

5k RPM
This has been kicked around a long time and I don't think exhaust back pressure (muffler plugging) or lower fuel pressure has been talked about, these will give you those kind of RPM problems ! Please no one tell me I"m a fucking know it all , I'm only giving my 2cents, joeComment

I bet the DME is not 100% = mods/conversionokay well then, while driving in any gear, as well as sitting at a stop in neutral...even with pedal to the metal, or the butterfly completely open on the throttle body, the engine wont rev past 5.5k rpms. it sounds like a governor is kicking in like on a lot of american cars. we are taking it to get scanned at the dealer, because we don't have that kind of equipment. thanks for everyone who put in their good word.Comment
