Post your 40-70mph acceleration

    Here's mine:

    4.5s 40-70

    S50 w/ ZF tranny and 3.73 diff
    245/40-17 rear tires
    s52 headers and cat
    dual 1.75" Borla muffler
    TMS/Jim C chip
    3.5'' HFM
    shaved e30 325i flywheel

    There are a few simple things I could do to make my car a little faster: cold air intake (K&N is currently not shielded from the motor), go back to 235/40-17 tires or the stock e30 m3 205/55-15 tires. Also, I know my exhaust is not optimal. The s50 pipes had to get dimpled to clear the control arm bushing and sway bar and my Borla muffler being dual 1.75" is just adequate. I could benefit from a bigger muffler, but it just sounds so damn good that I don't mind a little loss in power.

    40-70 is certainly not optimal for my gearing. 40mph in 3rd is 3500rpm - not quite into the power yet. 70mph is 6100rpm. My motor pulls strong up to 7k.

    Overall, I am extremely happy with how quick my car is. Had my first track event a couple weekends ago with the PCA folks. I think the p-cars got a little tired of seeing me in their mirrors. I can finally keep up and pass the 944 turbos!

      My intake filter used to always touch that hot coolant hose going to the radiator. I just put a piece of rounded plastic in between to block the hot air from that hose and a little from the alternator.


      Maybe we should post temperature and altitude as well?

      The time I posted was at 68*F. When I did it again at 100*F I did it in 4.0 seconds which is .21 seconds diff, which is quite a bit for just 30mph worth of acceleration.

          Nothing wrong with m10s, my m10 powered 2002 was faster then my m52 e30.

              Just did a run with my 97 540i Automatic Bone Stock.

              from 40-70mph 3rd gear 4.6 seconds (downshifted to 2nd and upshifted to 3rd)
              from 40-70mph 2nd gear (upshifting to 3rd) 4.2 seconds.
              from 70-100mph 3rd (upshifting to 4th) 7 seconds flat.

              Ambient temp: 72*
              Full tank of gas, and 1 passanger in the car.

                Heres a time for ya.
                In my 1984 Nissan 720d pickup: 40-65 (can't get to 70 since I don't have 5th gear atm) - somewhere around like 30 seconds.

                      I pulled a 5 seconds flat ,just got the car on the road 2 days ago and unfortunately it doesnt feel right yet.

                      ** 3rd gear at 40mph puts me at 2700rpms **

                      It takes like a second to a second and a half before VTEC kicks in y0!

                        ^^ seems like with that gearing you should be pulling in second...post that

                        i was going to put 2.9x gears on my s52...heh and i just shipped out my 3.73lsd

                          Believe it or not i liked the 2.93 its just mine was an open diff so that kinda sucked. The 2.93 was fun because i would still be accelerating while the other cars would be shifting and loosing ground.

                            My second gear pull used to look like this but it actually seems faster now. I'll have to get a new vid . I dont get fully into the throttle till 40mph its funny how at one point this looked fast to me now its like so slow.
