just stumbled upon some news from MS creators:

    condensed:
same open system, with great community support, in light-years sturdier form (hardware/case/connectors), with sequential capability + number of outputs for all sorts of stuff (like PWM outputs for potentially controlling dual-vanos)
about $500-600 for the whole package

EDIT: not only it is sequential, it will "allow individual tuning of phase angle", which i believe means that one can tune for different timing advance on (and possibly injecting different amount of fuel into) different cylinders. <- this is essential for implementing a per cylinder ion-sensing feedback system (similar to the new M5)

I don't think u understand what I'm getting at. Ya I am lookin at what others are doing and learning from that, but I''m not gonna learn anything by runnin OBD1 just like the rest. Personally I'd rather try something different and learn something new.

ah, the "I want to be different just like everybody else" syndrome.

If you want to be different, how many are doing their own tuning on the 413? How many have used a ford ECU? or an AEM? or a haltech? or a GM ECU? Hell, if you really want to be different, machine a gear on a cam and run a distributor. then fit 3 side draft webers. that'd be different and sound awesome. I know of precious few carb'd M52's.

Ok, so never thought I'd be explaining the whole thing to people online. The reason I'm runing megasquirt is because the m52 I just got, has no wiring harness on it to begin with. Why spend 300+ on obd1 setup just to take it out in a year when I go turbo, because i'd much rather run something that is tuneable without having to reburn a chip. Friend of mine JRhaile, has had bad luck with finding a chip that fits the setup he was running. That's the reason I'm doing this, not just to be different, but I also don't want to end up backtracking and rewiring something that I could have done to begin with.

OK, so what the hell, man...this is a FORUM, thus the NEED to explain concepts that you are initiating DISCUSSion on, right-e-o? You obviously have a brain, so use the damn thing to explain your reasoning, so we can learn from your mistakes.

So now we cut to the REAL crux of the matter, you are trying to do something not dumb, like wasting your time. Cool. Understandable, even. Let me share my plan, since you are barking up virtually the same tree that I am...M50TU Turbo, cheap. I do not want to cough up the dough for a Haltech or even Electromotive.

Instead of going aftermarket ECU, I am gonna stay 413, but using someones turbo chip...and then build the turbo system EXACTLY as it was designed for. Something that should work flawlessly and reasonably cheap.

Having a hot rod E30 is different enough that I am entirely OK seeing someone else having the same setup as me. Fuck it, I want to go drive!

personally, if i was to do it all over again, i'd wait and buy the pre-assembled sequential MS2 , thread about which i had linked to in my last post.
Assembling your own hardware saves a bit of $$ and is educational, but theoretically not as sturdy and not as reliable as the surface-mount pre-assembled one, and just an extra possibility of messing something up.

I asked a question regarding something else, I'm sorry I didn't feel it was needed to get the question regarding knock sensors for you all to know what the entire setup is going to be.

:ohsnap: also made a pass that i braked out of at englishtown on saturday. Would have certainly been a 10.9x pass... The 1/8th mile was there. Ended up a 11.9@69mph. Blew my muffler up with the anti lag so i have a full 4" exhaust coming now.:)

MS took a little to iron out a few problems, now its back to its clock like reliability.
