    3.46 lsd

    3.46 lsd from an 1986 735i fit?

I am looking to purchase this one, but i need to know if it will fit, I will be using the zf tranny and the 97 m3 drivetrain with the e30 CSB.

The rear cover won't work, but the top mounting holes on the case look ok.
May need to just swap output flanges and the cover.
Need more pics, or someone who knows for sure.

Yes, an E23 diff will definitely work.

As DaN said, you'll have to swap output flanges and the rear cover. The E23, E24, and E28 all had slightly larger bolt circle diameter output flanges.

They slide right out with a flathead/prybar and snap back in.

                Any seals or gaskets required?

You can replace the output shaft seals when you change the output shafts, it is cheap insurance. You will also need a new gasket for the E30 cover.

i kinda wish i went with 3.46 instead of my 3.25, if u r using the e36 ZF u r going to love the length and torque in the gears :pimp:

Sorry to highjack your thread but would a 3.46 work well with a getrag 260 and a s52 or would a 3.25 work better. I have a 3.73 now and it could def use some longer gears.

Torque and HP of a S52 will have no issue.

The hole pattern looks good, but I can't see the other 2 holes. Post more pictures at different angles.

Swap the rear cover and probably the output of half shafts.

On real oem it says the e32 735i auto or manual comes with a (3.64 ) not a 3.46

The 735 that he is dealing with is an E23.

E23 diffs DO fit into 6 cylinder E30s except the diff from the 745.

Using a prybar as a lever (between the case and the flange), and the heel of your palm as the hammer, 'pop' out the output flanges. The new ones pop in more easily.

Swap out the rear cover for an E30 cover. Now is the time to switch out that bushing.
