              dddddddaamnn!

Whatever works, I guess. lol.. Maybe you should break the rest of the trans bellhousing apart and keep the case with all the guts handy if you ever need to rebuild part of one.

                i will probably do this.

i had to break it apart like that to get the bolts holding the pressure plate off. to top it off, one of the pressure plate bolt heads broke off in the flywheel. yay. if all goes to plan, this will be back together and running 2m.

PS: any1 in the bay area have that covering plate between the tranny and block for an m/s50?? i destroyed mine and need a new one ASAP!!

According to the catalog the part# should be KF778-02
Go here and click on catalogs, then clutches.

                  That really sucks man.
How smoothly did the tranny go in in the first place?
I remember rebuilding my old jeep tranny and having the reverse gear get stuck on the shaft. I took it off, made sure there was nothing on the splines and tried again. I ended up getting another one. The new one slid on with no binding at all. I guess the splines on the bad one where like .001" too small or something.

Did you try to put the clutch onto the input shaft by itself before mating the tranny to the engine?

you put the disc on backwards. had a customer do this on his e36, we had to put slave cyl in and turn engine, unbolt pressure plate.... install slave cylinder and unbolt pressure plate... took forever, but you should pay attention to which side is which.

                          F*&K thats a horror story!
Pays to know a little German, all friction discs are marked with which side faces engine (or gearbox?), I guess for exactly this reason.
Sorry to hear your woes... Next friction plate, you don't have to guess, just read off the thing. It will have it printed on it.
                          Here's a German translator:
                          dict.leo.org
Its very good, very technical too, works great for this type of thing...

btec, you can see in his pic that Sachs was nice enough to print Gearbox Side, instead of the normal getriebseite and motorseite.
