So your sure that the trans is in neutral when the clutch pedal is out, you can turn the drive shaft by hand if your wheels are off the ground. Sounds to me like the trans is stuck in gear.

car is not in gear, but get this...

i just bled the clutch slave, and now when my friend pushes in the clutch pedal(tranny is in neutral), i can turn the crank, whereas before i couldnt turn the crank AT ALL... what does this mean??

if i let out the clutch pedal, with the tranny still in neutral, the crank is totally stuck again.

Im using e36 clutch/flywheel and starter with the 260, no issues here.

Is the shift linkage attached and not in gear?

ok, i tried to turn the crank, and it was stuck(didnt wanna try to hard). so i took apart the intake mani, and removed the starter, but the crank is still stuck. something is in the way, i just dont know what it is... has any1 else ran the e36 clultch/flywheel setup with a getrag 260??

its no the starter keeping me from cranking basically...its something else. im racking my brain here, its getting frustrating.

It's not an EWS thing, I assure you. What is your CEL doing while all this is happening? Be specific.

hmm i do recall now on my friends m50 the hard hose that looks like a turkey neck from the icv behind the intake was dissconected. when we tried to fire it, it ran like shit and clucked. reconected it and she ran great. just a suggestion

HOWEVER, it only started twice, and now when i go to start it it just clunks loudly, and the starter doesnt crank, like its jammed or something??

second, is my fuel pump supposed to prime when the key is turned to start, but not cranked? i busted out the circuit tester, and the pump gets NO power in the fuse box or relay when i have the key turned to start, and as soon as i crank it they both get power and fuel DOES get to the motor. im running a silver label 413 w/ Matt's EWS delete chip if that matters. i know for sure with the m20 the pump DID prime with the key at start.

thanks for any info. im really concerned about the loud clunk, and lack of cranking.
FYI: My car suddenly would not start about month ago. After many hours of reading (some misinformation) i finally realized that when the key is in the start position my fuel pump was not getting the 12v. I also read that my fuel pump is supposed to prime the system before the car is started. This was not true in my case. I only got 12v at the pump when i attempted to start the motor. I replaced the fuel pump and it fired right up. Hope this helps. Best of luck

i run an obdII car with ewsII and 2 keys. The fuel pump will prime for 2-3secs when i turn the e30 key to the "Run" position even if i don't have the e36 (chip) key inserted. so its not an ews thing in this sense

what i do recognize as an ews thing is the starter running--> engine cranks but doesnt fire, then the starter changes noise like its not touching the flywheel just spinning freely and then finally clunks as if it were stuck....That WILL happen w/o the ews disabled (key not inserted/turned in my case) Sounds familiar?

ews cuts off what? i believe its fuel, spark and starer (only if wired through the ews module) so if your car runs it means you got them all and the problem is elsewhere, maybe a huge vacuum leak, like if the round plug/hose behind the intake mani werent connected. happened to me..

..just commenting maybe something here is helpful

ran for like 5 seconds before i shut it off. there was only like 1 gallon of coolant in the motor, we were just testing the wiring. it must be an ECU issue then, b/c the relay gets no power until the motor is cranked...the fuel pump is pretty new, replaced it earlier this year.

could this be an issue with the EWS ECU?

no advice for the fuel pump priming? what controls this function, the ECU?
ECU, fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse, fuel pump wiring, fuel pump itself...

How long did it run for?

what is the name of that metal plate between the motor and bell housing? or do you have a part number for it? i damaged mine when i took the auto tranny off the motor.

I've checked a couple different sites, ie Realoem.com, and rmeuropean.com, and couldn't find it.

    thanks
