You mean the internal o-rings? If so, nope. :D

Is there even a kit for the VANOS seals?

BTW, in putting my head back together on of the studs on intake cam was screwed so I tried ordering a new one. My VANOS system has been superceded by the newer version with the spring plate so I had to order all of that stuff to go with the new studs.

Is the newer version of VANOS a noticeable improvement over the original one? Is it quieter?

Drvanos has them installed and, One of my engines has the marble in a can noise and I know that it's headed south so it's do it know or what till it fails. Seems simple to do them both now.

That sucks. I thought the only way to cure that would be to replace the entire vanos unit itself?

Well there is a seal kit that's sold through someone else but adding a DrVanos is not a bad deal.

I know they have twin vanos but from what I hear they supply Dr Vanos with the seals.

While I'm waiting for parts I've got mine laying around. Here is what it looks like broken apart... very simple.

It's a bi-stable hydraulic device. The solenoid controls pressure to one side of the disk or the other. Doesn't really matter how tight the seal is, excess oil leaks into the head.

What exactly does Dr. Vanos do?

It does matter how tight the seal is as it won't advance the cam if there is no pressure.

There's hardly anything to rebuild! Do they replace the large O-ring?

The biggest way I could see improving the VANOS unit would be to change the way the shaft fits through the cover. It's a loose fit and I can see how it could rattle. Put a stainless sleave in the cover and then an O ring to keep the shaft from rattling.

                            I could see that.
