    Transmission noise

I have a moderately lightened flywheel with my M50-260 engine/tranny combo and I've got the famous diesel clatter at idle with the clutch out.

    It's disconcerting but I guess it's a known issue.

Anybody have any luck quieting it down with heavier weight transmission oil?

It's the nature of a ltw flywheel. My m3 does it, my swapped car does it and they're both using the same aluminum flywheel. Turn the radio louder...

Seriously though, my m3 has had a ltw flywheel for at least 5 years and 20k miles, many of which were track miles. No side effects except for better acceleration

Did you swap in an m20 pilot bearing?

Yep. I remember that specifically. New T/O bearing, too.

Seriously, my car sounds like a diesel after it gets really warm and I pull up to a light. Only after it's been driven for awhile and the transmission is warm.

That's why I'm wondering if thicker oil would help.

Mine sounds the same. I've got a 10 lb flywheel and a 6 puck sprung clutch.
