yes, you can get a used set of springs for 150.00-200.00 and use just the rear. Be carfull what you sell off the susp untill you complete the swap, you may sell something you need and have to buy it again. Some will tell you that you cannot use something so you will sell it to them. sways can deff go, cant use them at all. Keep in mind you will have to change the rear susp to the z3 so you will have 5 lug all the way around.Comment

valve cover was cracked so i pulled it and was very happy to see how clean the head was. i was hoping to find some nice cams in there, but no cigar haha they have bmw stamped in them so i'm sol
i have an m50 valve cover but it looks different on the inside and has the oil fill cap in a different spot.
the s52 plastic cover has baffles and the m50 cover doesn't.
can i bolt it on or try to find the valve cover that was meant for this motor?
also, how hard/expensive it is to find and replace this part? what is it anyway?
and are these stock injectors?

The M50 valve cover wont work (without modification) since its OBDI and the S52 is OBDII .
Just find a valve cover from any 96+ M3 or 2.8 from a 328 or 528 , they are readily available and cheap on eBay .
Thats cracked part is the Vanos unit , I would see about getting that area by the bolt welded .Comment

another question... which throttle body and afm and intake boot do i need? m3 only or other obd1/obd2 pieces will work?
mine are gone.Comment

Those look like the stock injectors. Pink tops. 21lb if i remember correctly.
For the throttle body-it depends whether you stay obdII or go obdI.
If you go obdI with the obdI intake, go with the obdI throttle. You can go with the obdII throttle but you'll have to get a special seal, since the sealing surface on them is different than the obdI throttle bodies.
So, it's like this:
obdI intake + obdI throttle = stock seal
obdI intake + obdII throttle = special seal (thicker)
obdII intake + obdII throttle = stock seal
obdII intake + obdI throttle = no idea
Remember that the obdI intake has way bigger intake runners.
For the HFM, you can get the stock one, or do the 3.5" 540i or euro HFM conversion. The stock one has a 3" ID.
You will need a custom chip for all this, which would also get rid of your EWS issue, since you don't have the key to the car.
I'm actually doing all this to my car. I also bought an e36 m3 wreck and pulled the suspension and drivetrain out of it. Not sure if I'm going 5-lug though. I might just get a 4-lug BBK.Comment

i will be installing the obd1 intake manifold but will be staying obdII. where do i get this special seal?
the car already has a dinan reflash. even if its the stage 1 or whatever basic flash, will that be enought for the 3.5 hfm and m50 manifold?
also whats up with the ews issues?Comment

use two of the S52 throttle body gaskets. you'll see when you do it. its the easiest cheapest way.

yeah
you need to read my OBDII wiring thread. EWS is a bmw security/anti-theft/disabler measure. The OBDII key has a chip with a code. This code is read by inductance from a "transmitter module" that sends it to the EWSII module and disables the inmobilizer of the ECU allowing fuel and spark..and the starter if you wire it through the EWS module as well. Its a few more wires than the OBDI but i pretty much did the work for you. happy moddin!
btw i just bought my 5-lugersNo more e30s for me.

and will the flash still be ok for all that?
so i need to use the m3 key?
the car never came with one. i guess i have to get one made now. 150 bucks isn't too terrible though.
now buy my brakes :DLast edited by sanya; 05-19-2008, 09:24 PM.Comment
