What parts to pull off of a 94 525i?

A friend is parting a 94 525i. I have been reading as much as possible, but need to pull off everything I need ASAP, and don't want to miss anything, so if anyone can check my list and add to it if necessary, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Complete engine
    Harness
    ECU
    Throttle cable
    MAF
Body side engine harness plug, for harness adapter

I already have e36 motor mount arms, and I will go with the Treehouse booster. I will also use an e30 trans and modify my own cross member and shift linkage. So that should about cover it. Anything else I need from the e34, considering my plans?

    Thanks

I would get as much of the downpipe that you can and possibly power steering lines, radiator hoses.

Good call on the rad hoses.

I have the e36 M3 rack.. don't remember reading anything on doing the swap with that rack, I guess that may complicate things, or even make it easier? Anyway, not too concerned about that right this moment. I'll grab the P/S hoses.

I can take as much of the exhaust as I want. Just how far down is usable? The whole way to the cats?

        Get new rad hoses dude...

P/S hoses won't help, the E34 has a recirc. ball steering box, not a rack.

The E36 rack makes the swap easier, cause all the hoses fit like OEM. You'll need all E36 hoses though, hope you at least got the high pressure line, it's expensive. BTW don't listen to people who say you need to hack the steering column U joint - you don't. All you need to do is loosen it on the steering column and slide it up further.. or was it down...? shit been so long, anyway I commented in the E36 rack swap DIY thread, I think I even posted pics. There's no need to hack anything, just adjust the position of the knuckle, add 3 headbolt washers on top of the rack under the mounting tabs (the mounting blocks are shorter than the E30 rack) and you're done.

If it's the same as the E36, the whole midpipe should be reusable if you match it up to the same headers (I know from personal experience that OBDI pipes do not work with OBDII headers - results in the cats being angled to the driver's side). The only problem with the midpipes, again if they're like the E36, is that the O2 sensor bung ends up directly under the chassis cross brace. So you either need to hack the pipe to move the cats further up or make a cutout in the brace and add reinforcement.

I already have the e36 rack installed. I don't have the e36 hoses, but I'll make what I have work, or find some used hoses locally. I'm not too worried about P/S, if I can't get it to work, it won't be the first time. Hell I went without it for over a year in my 3 turn M3 rack. I did have to hack the U Joint though, even with it slid the whole way up and the rack down as far as possible, it was not possible to use the stock joint.

I'll probably grab new coolant hoses if the ones in the e34 are questionable. I'm doing this on a VERY limited budget (under $500). I have several e30 parts cars, e34's, and e36's at my disposal, either my own or friends, so I can "trade" parts and keep it nearly free.

How far do the mid-pipes go back? Is that everything that goes up to the muffler? I don't know what e36/e34 exhaust looks like.

Weird, I doubt the steering columns are any different on these cars unless yours was airbag... did you put the rack spacers underneath it by any chance? If you have access to E36 parts cars try to get all the PS hoses off of it.

It's the middle piece - headers, cats and a little bit of pipe to the catback flange (which isn't just the muffler, it's the muffler and resonator). It'll get you to about the rear seat. From there you can just get an E36 catback on - but you'd need custom hangers.

Cool, thanks. I'll probably chop it before the cats, do a y pipe, and run custom the whole way back for less weight.

No, mine's not an airbag car. I tried spacers on top, to lower the rack, still not enough clearance. I did notice some minor differences in the joint between my 85 and the later cars.
