Finally some updates. Life has been too damn busy the last couple of months. I got to check the gap on the rings and the clearances on the main bearings this weekend. The ring gaps were all at .016", which is on the high side of the spec, and the crank oil clearances were around .045mm The max being .058mm

I think the hardest thing in this whole process is keeping things clean. I may start wiping down the whole area around my motor with a few wet towels, as well as the bench top. I swear you pretty much have to cover the engine anytime you are not working on it, even for a couple seconds when you turn around to grab something.

I also bought a low-mile front sub-frame to reinforce and pre-install on the engine. I still need to get a few more parts, including all new timing components, and clean and prep the rest (oil pan, oil pump, etc, etc).

And finally, measuring the crank oil clearance:

windnsea00-actually, I'm on the thin side, however, I do have vein-y arms all the time. :)

sumyungguy-You mean I didn't have to rent it and deal with shipping? I guess I should've called around.

          Thanks guys.

What kinda bike do you ride?

Awesome work on the engine rebuild... did you rent that torque plate or purchase it? That is great extra step for an edge.

              kylebes1-Thanks!

I rented the plate from VAC Motorsports. It ran me about $100.

              Bike? What bike?

              :)

Depends on the mood, I guess.
Roadie: Bridgestone RB-1. Campy equiped. Repainted by PO.

              Mountain: Geared Spot Brand

              Cyclocross: Voodoo Wazoo, Campy equiped

Good eye! I guess you noticed my bike tool box on the bench behind the head. The rest are my wife's, or incomplete projects (single speed, old classic, etc)

A little off-topic but, I can do that on my own thread right? :)

                Short update:
Finished putting the bottom end together!
                (crappy phone pic)

Couple of tips: Make sure the ring compressor is sitting fully flat on the block before you smack the piston down. I had trouble with 2 of the pistons because of this.

Also, make sure the piston is rotated correctly, else the con-rod will hit the counter-weights on the crank when trying to push the piston down. Everything will stop and the bearing shell will fall out!

Now i need to install the cams on the head, and the head onto the block. Then I get to install the timing chains and oil pan.

                Oh, I also got this:

I thought it would take longer to get and that I would be done, or almost done with the project. :D

Oh well, I guess I'll have to be a poser for a little while. I hope no one tries to race me.
