Stu: I actually pulled a E36 diff cover off of a random E36 diff in the warehouse at my work today. I checked to see if the bolt holes would even line up. Sure do. Gasket surface even lines up and is the same as the E30 188 diff. I'm going to make some brackets that I can weld to the frame rail and get rid of the stock one.

Actually, I have made a little head way in the bracket area. Not much, but a little. I do have a diff cover with a male -4 AN coupler coming out of the overflow hole. I will be running that to a catch can underneath the battery box. Let me get the first set done and tested and I will definitely start making them.My 2.9L Build!

But why use a single sided mount when the whole unit could use support on both sides?
This is actually something I have been thinking about for a while. I have seen way too many diff bolts (the ones on top of the subframe) back out without the use of some form of locktite. With the additional mounting point you would have far less of a chance of those bolts backing out. I sure if you could get a torque wrench up there, some how, you wouldn't have to worry about it, as much. But with the limited amount of space between the trunk floor and the bolts, you pretty much have to use a open end wrench to tighten them. I don't know about you, but I would be much less worried about it if there was an additional support. My 2.9L Build!

I'll have one up for everybody in the next few weeks. When I get a chance.
It basically just bolts up. I mean it is a direct swap, you need the long bolts from the E36 diff (the side ones) cover, but that is it. I am going to look at where the tabs end up being positioned based on the stock tabs. I am thinking that I may be able to use the rear most stock mounting tab since it looks like the E36 tab will be right on the outside.
I'll make sure I take lots of pictures when I do it.My 2.9L Build!
