    which clutch...m50 w/ m20 flywheel

Which clutch should I run with a stock m50, 240 trans, and a m20 flywheel.

    stock m20 clutch and PP?
or a HD PP and a 6 puck sprung from IE?

    thanks

I have M50 w/260 trans and have the stock clutch with a lightened flywheel. No slippage, no problems.

I had my S50 rebuilt with new cams etc, and when it was time to set the Vanos, it couldn't be done by the book because you need to lock the crank via a pin in the flywheel that isn't there on the M20 setup. The weight and the cost are great things, but be aware of this one. I wouldn't do it again as I always think about if the timing was set correctly when I run the thing up high in the Rev's.

Yes, it's good to have a stock flywheel available for this exact reason.

Don't use a Spec Clutch. The pressure plate WILL come apart on you. (first hand experience)

I had the same experience with an s50 + spec e30 325i clutch/PP/flywheel. I'm not sure if the PP failed because of the additional power, or maybe the PP was defective to begin with.

Onthe M52 I'm running a Sachs "heavy duty" E30 325i clutch kit on a lightened E30 325i single mass flywheel. No complaints at this stage.

No. Spec Clutches. Look them up.

Rev: I actually had mine fail on a dyno. Right when the motor got to 7000 we heard a pop and a ticking. Turns out one of the drive straps and rivets let go out of the pressure plate. The rivet actually put a small hole in the transmission. I am still using the clutch disc though. I haven't heard anything about the disks being bad.

                          Drew,
Got a link and/or sales details on that Sachs e30 325i "heavy duty" clutch kit?

I've been searching for a bit and it seems that companies are not advertising sport / heavy duty Sachs kits for e30 325i - unlike my recollection from the past.

Closest I found is Korman; they do lists individial "heavy duty" parts, but not as a kit and as usual do not have the prices on their web site. And sometimes their site is out of date anyway.

on my m52 motor with a ZF trans, I am using a F1 Racing (ebay brand) 6puck clutch, lightweight flywheel, and sach pressure plate. I love the way it feels, and my friend has it in his e36, and it hasn't given him any troubles yet.

                              clutchs

I installed the e3o M3 clutch kit w/alumium flywheel on my built up S52. It only had about 15k miles on when it started to slip, low speed and even at speed with WOT. I have about 20k + and it stopped slipping just like it started slipping ,don't know?? Anyone got any ideas on why ? Joe
