Can I run two exhaust cams?

I'm doing a head gasket swap on a '92 m50 (non-vanos) & the intake cam has some rust on the lobes from setting for awhile. I have a spare motor just like it on the stand & considered using the cam out of it - except it has the same problem. Could I use the exhaust cam out of the spare motor? Two exhaust cams?

I've heard of people switching cams when purchasing only one aftermarket cam & just wondered if anyone knew for sure about such things.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Oh, & I know, use the "search" button! :)

It would work. But it wouldn't run very well.

after searching a little, I see some folks recommend running your intake on the exhaust side with an aftermarket intake, but not what I'm considering.

maybe the rust will come off with some 400 grit & oil...

Scotch pad and WD-40. It's only surface corrosion.

I made the mistake of pressure washing my valve cover and placing it over the cams when I thought it was dry. It wasn't. I had nasty looking surface corrosion in a few hours that went away just as quickly.

This is true, but you should not run two exhaust cams.

                And please don't use sandpaper.

I say wd-40 and a soft rag. The surface rust will come off once the engine is ran the first time.

                      Just change the oil afterwards

Agreed. With any bristle brush or gritty cleaner, you run the risk of creating scratches... And with scratches you get peaks and valleys, where cracks start and/or uneven wear occurs.

Or one NV intake cam and an S50/S52 exhaust cam.
